Volume
There seems to be an nearly imperceptible changing in volume with your last two beta builds. It's audible enough to hear it. Please do not say it is my computer or my files. it is not. This doesn't happen with any other media player I have on my computer including MM4. These two builds came so close together I figured that the second was a fix.

What do you mean with changes in volume?

Re: Volume
I hear a slight but noticeable change in volume. What do you think I meant?

Re: Volume
Sorry, I don't understand either - when do you hear a change in volume?
- between tracks
- partway thru a track
- between different albums
- generically it plays more or less loudly at the same setting you used before
You see, there are many ways a "noticeable change in volume" can be interpreted.

Using 5.1 LATEST alpha or beta build on Windows 10, HP laptop, managing 13k tracks
Re: Volume
Give me a break, why would I complain about a volume difference between tracks or albums? Frankly, I'm insulted by that assumption, and I'm rather nonplussed by your own lack of logic. Obviously, it's in a track itself.

There are many ways volume can change, which is why we're asking for more details on what you're experiencing.
No volume changes noticed here during playback. Try switching Output Plug-in and see if this still occurs.

Re: Volume
crawdad63,
Thanks for the report and please don't feel insulted. There could easily be bugs in volume leveling (replay gain) functionality that would cause incorrect volume adjustments between tracks (in fact there were some bugs in that area in MM4).
Assuming you're using the latest build (2675 or later), there haven't been any changes in the last month that I see that could trigger that.
So please let us know:
- what build you're using
- whether the alternate output plugin solves the problem (see Lowlander's post for the link)
- whether the issue is specific to certain types of files (e.g. MP3 or FLAC)
Thanks!

Re: Volume
Sorry for the late reply but switching the output plugin seemed to work.
I do have a question about how the track volume is measured. It seems to work in reverse, i.e. the lower the number the louder the track. For example a track that is -8.0 is louder than a track that is -4.0 and there are tracks that are into positive numbers as well. Could you explain that for me?

Re: Volume
Hi,
Replay gain is actually simple.
Lets assume that 100% volume is 0db so if track have -8.0db it means MM needs to lower volume of track by 8db to be 0db and for -4.0db it lowers just 4db which means that -8db track is 4db louder than -4db track. Same approach goes to all tracks that have Positive number.
That essentially means MM automatically adjust volume (turn the volume knob) for track to be played at same listening level, where in the past you would need to do it manually.
I know it is not accurate explanation, but it is easier to understand this way.

Dynamic Range Meter?
How about a dynamic range Meter added to MM 5?

I didn't see this before I asked somewhere else. Lol. Still would love that DR meter.

So is leveling the same as replay gain?

Yes.
See more about this at: https://www.mediamonkey.com/wiki/WebHel ... veling/5.0
Note: pressing F1 in most portions of the MM UI will take you to contextually relevant help. e.g. in this case, if you're in Tools > Options > Player:Volume Leveling and press F1, the above link would open.
