MMW5 - Correcting Artist name in MMW Database
Hello,
I have another question
all seems to be going well following advice given here - very kind btw
imported from iTunes - and renamed to new folder perfect , all the playlists are now pointing to the right folders and songs - great.
but when i look at the structure :
I have some albums not under the Artist but under unknown ?
sometimes its the same artist :
for example this cd is -
E:\MMW\Music\Unknown\The Platinum Collection (CD 1)
but the other cd is in the right place- with artist name
E:\MMW\Music\Frank Sinatra\The Platinum Collection (CD 2)
If I have auto organize turned on I think
How do i correct the CD1 please ?
thanks
D

If the album artist tag is showing as unknown, then the folder location will be set accordingly, based on your settings for auto-organize.
So, in theory correcting the album artist for this set of tracks should also correct the storage folder location.
You can do this by selecting the entire album cd1 set of tracks, and then right-click properties and fill in the album artist name.

Re: MMW5 - Correcting Artist name in MMW Database
Thank you
just to clarify - Im not sure what to do ?
when I select the cd1 files then right click properties
I get an auto-organize screen with 2 options
Move and rename files to new destination based on file tags (highlighted)
or
Copy files to new destination based on file tags
the destination is set to
e:\MMW\Music\<Album Artist>\<Album>\<Track #>-<Artist>-<Title>
here is one file
full path as example
E:\MMW\Music\Unknown\The Platinum Collection (CD 1)\01-Frank Sinatra-Come Fly With Me.mp3
thanks

Move and rename is the thing to do.
You don't want two copies, do you?

Re: MMW5 - Correcting Artist name in MMW Database
No I do not want 2 copies
so again being new to this
exactly how do I insert the artist name based on my previous answers
the destination is set to
e:\MMW\Music\<Album Artist>\<Album>\<Track #>-<Artist>-<Title>
are you saying I should manually change this to read
e:\MMW\Music\Frank Sinatra\<Album>\<Track #>-<Artist>-<Title>
or am I in the wrong place - or doing this wrong ?
thanks

Re: MMW5 - Correcting Artist name in MMW Database
You are in the wrong place, I think.
You need to edit the tags for the tracks, and then autoorganize should relocate them in your file system to match.

Re: MMW5 - Correcting Artist name in MMW Database
You first need to edit the tags of the files as Auto-Organize Files uses this information to rename the file.
Note that if Auto-Organize is enabled, that the folder/filenames will be automatically adjusted when you change the tags on the files.

thank you
Oh did someone delete my last post reply
ok I will ask again in a different way
as I am a little confused, I just want to make sure 100%
when you say "edit tags" how exactly ?
should this be done track by track or by album?
and the edit process I asked about earlier by inserting the name is that what I need to do please ?
ie use for example this cd is -
e:\MMW\Music\<Album Artist>\<Album>\<Track #>-<Artist>-<Title>
which relates to-
E:\MMW\Music\Unknown\The Platinum Collection (CD 1)
but the other cd is in the right place- with artist name
E:\MMW\Music\Frank Sinatra\The Platinum Collection (CD 2)
thanks

Re: MMW5 - Correcting Artist name in MMW Database
Either or both. When editing shared values (like Album, Album Artist and Date) you can edit all files on the Album. For individual values (like Title) you'd edit each file individually.
Auto-Organize Files takes the tags, so once Album Artist is tagged, Auto-Organize will use it, thus no unknown. So no, you need to edit the tags, not the Auto-Organize Files mask.
Further details are in the links previously provided.

Re: MMW5 - Correcting Artist name in MMW Database
OK
I can see im getting nowhere here on exactly how I do this
I appreciate all the how to links - its all very easy if you know how, sorry but thats just true
The penny has not dropped, I just do not get it
Phrases or terms something just does not make sense here
Maybe its time I just pack this in - maybe MMW is just not for me
27,000 song database is a thing to try and re edit
I will just have a re think
thank you for everyone here in Forum.
You so need some how to videos on YouTube and some real world answers when people like me are just stuck
thank you all, where do I get a refund on the way out the door...lol

Hi,
I tried to see what answers do not work for you, but could not find the reason for it, let me try to collect all of them and give you step by step based on your description:
1. Select all files from E:\MMW\Music\Unknown\The Platinum Collection (CD 1)
2. Right click -> Properties
3. Set Disk # field to 1
3. Album Artist to "Frank Sinatra" and album to "The Platinum Collection"
4. OK
5. Do right click Organize files -> use mask "e:\MMW\Music\<Album Artist>\<Album>\<Track #>-<Artist>-<Title>" and it should correspond to "E:\MMW\Music\Frank Sinatra\The Platinum Collection\"
6. Select all files from E:\MMW\Music\Frank Sinatra\The Platinum Collection (CD 2)
7. Right click -> Properties
8. Set Disk # field to 2
9. Album Artist to "Frank Sinatra" and album to "The Platinum Collection"
10. OK
11. Do right click Organize files -> use mask "e:\MMW\Music\<Album Artist>\<Album>\<Track #>-<Artist>-<Title>" and it should correspond to "E:\MMW\Music\Frank Sinatra\The Platinum Collection\"
Now all files will be in the right place and if you right click on any files -> Find More From Same -> Album: The Platinum Collection will show you both CDs in right order and correctly named?
If you decide to do a refund please open Sales Support ticket and ask for refund with all the purchase details.

Hi,
)
One Question do you RIP CDs yourself in MM or CDs were ripped in other app and MM picked them up from HDD?
Why not, it is always easier for all of to just to issue refund and not to deal with questions. MM is known to expect some learning curve, especially when old habits are in place.
I really hope you will not regret it, as from what I read in here I think it is the misunderstanding in place here eg. all try to help but not simply enough for you to follow (I am often one that is accused of such

Sure, take your time and if some steps are not clear or you need explanation why it is working like that, let me know. Also please note that this is example of what I think you want as result and if I am correct then we can explain you why.
