Random bug when hovering over menu items [#20946][#21054]
I've seen this bug lots of times before but never bothered reporting it as it's quite random. I'll usually see it the first time when running after there's a new update of MM and then it doesn't usually appear again until the next update.
Today I saw it after changing skin to the default Material Design one. What happens is that after first run after update (or after changing skin) whenever I hover over any of the menu items (e.g. File/Edit/View etc) the menu dropdown area is blank and fills the whole screen vertically like this:
Usually quitting and restarting makes it go away and everything is OK again but today I also got this error:
Again, when I quit and restart it's all OK again but I can often replicate by switching skin to Material and restarting.

Which Build (Help > About) of MediaMonkey are you seeing this on?

Re: Random bug when hovering over menu items
Please capture this in a debug log (step 4b) and attach the log to a Support Ticket: https://www.mediamonkey.com/forum/viewtopic.php?t=86643
If upgrades are the primary cause, start DebugView before you do a first run of the next available update.

Re: Random bug when hovering over menu items
Thanks for the report! This appears to be a casualty of some of the memory optimization work we've recently done. Tracking at:

Re: Random bug when hovering over menu items [#20946]
The bug seems to be marked as fixed but exactly same thing happened again after updating to today's latest version (3027). First time after launching the menus were all blank and full height vertically. Then after trying to click some of the menu options I got this crash:
Had to force quit and launch again and everything was fine. Always seem to happen to me on first launch after a new update, after that it doesn't happen again until next update.

Thanks! We'll look into the crashlog that you submitted.

Re: Random bug when hovering over menu items [#20946]
This is strange, dxgi.dll is external DLL tied to GPU rendering (eg. DirectX Graphical Interface) that is related to GPU rather than MM (file is non existent in MM folder) and from what I read online it is common issue on some games.
May I ask you to create support ticket, so that we can handle it in more details?

Re: Random bug when hovering over menu items [#20946]
FYI: I have just got the same error today and fixed it as https://www.ventismedia.com/mantis/view.php?id=21054 for the next build 3034tbm72 wrote: ↑Wed May 22, 2024 5:24 pm I've seen this bug lots of times before but never bothered reporting it as it's quite random. Re: Random bug when hovering over menu items [#20946][#21054]
Just updated to latest build (3034) and I don't seem to get any more crashes or errors but the first time I launch MM after upgrading I still get the weird menu behaviour every time on the first launch (with the full height blank vertical menus). This is always on first run after updating then goes away until next update.

Does this still happen with a clean install? You can do a separate portable install to test.

Re: Random bug when hovering over menu items [#20946][#21054]
Hmm, no it all seems OK with a clean install to a fresh folder.
If it only affects me I'm not too bothered as it's always fine after the first run through. If there's something simple I could try without causing a headache in losing settings etc then I could give it a try but otherwise maybe I'll just leave it as it is.

Try renaming persistent.json to persistent.json.old on the old install (you'll loose its settings, but not others and you can go back to it after testing), then start MediaMonkey. Close and reinstall on top. Does the problem persist?

Hi,
Try to rename Persistent.json as it contains UI settings.

Re: Random bug when hovering over menu items [#20946][#21054]
Thank you, that seems to have fixed it! I followed your steps and all seems OK on launch so I've renamed persistent.json.old back to its original filename and tried installing the latest install again on top. Menus seem OK on first run now.Lowlander wrote: ↑Sat Jun 29, 2024 3:24 pm Try renaming persistent.json to persistent.json.old on the old install (you'll loose its settings, but not others and you can go back to it after testing), then start MediaMonkey. Seems odd though that the persistent.json file is back to how it was originally but the bug has gone away? Anyway, will keep an eye on it next time there's an update. Thanks
