Definitely something extra interesting going on.

I synced earlier, and a bunch of tracks were deleted from MMA (because I sync by these playlists, and I'd played the tracks).

I synced a bit later...and the tracks got re-downloaded. Checked MMW, and they were suddenly showing as last played "never" again.

No cancellations in-between on this one—but the first sync was via the Windows service, and the next was after opening MMW proper. Maybe some kind of de-sync between the MMW service and the actual application?

Definitely something de-syncing.

I just "fast-played" (accelerated to the tracking point) on MMW, and watched things drop off the playlist there.

Synced: no change in MMA, files still in playlist.

Check the file properties for those tracks in MMA: still says last played 10/17/25 (10 days ago).

Double-check MMW: yep, still counted as played—and on a different date (today!)

So somehow these files got "disconnected" from their relationship to each other. The same track is no longer being recognized as the same for some reason, they're orphaned in MMA (well, I guess that's an arbitrary distinction because I consider MMW to be "home"...but they're orphaned somewhere!)

Hi,

I haven't tried replicating this yet (plan on working on this soon) but can you share the auto-playlist's rules here? I'd like to know the full set of rules, including whether you used the 'Limit to' option and what 'Selected by' option you used.

Also, can you clarify a couple of issues for me:
- at one point you indicated that you were sometimes syncing via the MMW service and other times via MMW. Does the issue occur when you sync consistently (e.g. never using the MMW service)?
- are you always doing a wi-fi sync?
- were all your tracks on the device running MMA synced via MMW? Or is it possible that some were manually copied (e.g. via Windows Explorer)?

UPDATE: Can you also share your sync rules?

Thanks!

I haven't been able to replicate the sync failures you described. BUT, I did find that the status bar for MMA Playlists failed to update the track count (even though the playlists updated as expected). This is just a display refresh issue, though.

Tracked at https://www.ventismedia.com/mantis/view.php?id=21857

I'm going to continue testing with different Playlist / Sync settings, but if you can provide me with yours, it'd save a lot of time. Thanks!

Sorry about that! I lost this window and got busy.

Here are my rules (I run a couple playlists with mild variations on this, but never use limits or select by for them):

Playlist: 2020 and Unplayed
Search: Simple No Redundant (an already filtered library, I can provide those rules as well)
Match: ALL
Playlist is not: Redundant, Stuff to Edit
Last Played is unknown
Date between (1/1/2020;1/1/2021)

Limit to: <unselected>
Selected by: <unselected>
Sort by:
Album Artist A..Z
Date A..Z
Album A..Z

Oh, and the questions, of course!
- at one point you indicated that you were sometimes syncing via the MMW service and other times via MMW. Does the issue occur when you sync consistently (e.g. never using the MMW service)?
I'll have to test this. I did just find that having MMW open just now, MMA couldn't find the server (so I started the service, and it instantly connected). Things look to have worked on that one.
- are you always doing a wi-fi sync?
Yes.
- were all your tracks on the device running MMA synced via MMW? Or is it possible that some were manually copied (e.g. via Windows Explorer)?
All Wi-Fi sync from MMW → MMA, none manually copied.
