Turning off Syncing (scanning) in MMA

Post by GiantRay »

I am using my old Samsung Phone as a Music Player by having MMA Pro installed on it. I have loaded my SD Card with all my music, nearly 256gb worth. It has taken the best part of a day for MMA to scan the SD Card and add my Music to the MMA library. I have no plans to add anymore music to the SD Card. Will MMA continually scan the SD Card for new files? If so, how do I stop it from continually searching for new files?

You can't stop the scanning of the SD card, however this is not Syncing, just checking what's on the card.

Hi,
To clarify bit more, MMA will not constantly scan SDCard, but will add any new media files copied to SDCard and reported by Android system SDCard content changed event.

"Scan for updated media files?" on every launch [#21140]

Post by tbm72 »

After the most recent MMA update a couple of days ago it always asks me "Scan for updated media files?" for my SD card each time I start up MMA. The options are either Postpone or Check but just wondering what is the option to disable this every time I open MMA.

Think it's OK now, the update seemed to mess up my server settings but have reconfigured and hopefully sorted.

Nope, I thought it was OK but that message keeps on intermittently coming back when I launch MMA. Sometimes it rapidly switches between "Mounted Storage: USB" and "Mounted Storage: AF5E-06A0" ( the name of my SD card):

Only started doing this since the last MMA update yesterday.

Hi,
Last Update included OTG storage support. I am curious why SDCard is detected as "Mounted Storage: USB"?
Can you send Debug log after MMA fully loads.

Repeated occurrences of same problem:

1. Froze after firing up MMA after a long break just yesterday. Restarted phone, MMA eventually stabilised and reported that it had submitted a log.

2. Today I opended the MMA app again, and was immediately trapped in the scan files loop, and after multiple presses of the Postpone option it froze there. Worse, it froze the UI of the phone, and all I can do is restart the phone, not good.

3. After restarting the phone for a second time MMA seemed to work normally and reported a version of 2.0.1.1202. I found the option to submit a log and did that (11:45 Aust Eastern Standard Time), but then I was back into the scan loop and it has frozen again, meaning:
  • the scan dialog is in foreground but neither of the buttons respond to touch, plus
  • the home bar at bottom of the screen (which a swipe up on takes the app out of the foreground) does not respond to touch, plus
  • the power button at right (Nokia XR20) does not respond to a press unless that is held long enough (20sec) to reboot the phone.
I have left the phone with the MMA scan screen in the foreground for about 10 minutes but it is still frozen at the image and can't be removed without rebooting the phone.

MMA is unusable in this state.

It caused no end of problems for me so I had to get a previous version of MMA from apk mirror and roll back to that. But because my 256GB sd card is practically full with my entire music library it was a very slow process scanning it all back in. Ended up taking the last 2 days re-importing my entire library back from the sd card and eventually yesterday I finally got it back to the same previous usable state.

I've disabled automatic updates for MMA now though and won't be updating again in a hurry!

Hi,
We improved things in 1205 build that is rolling out now for users.

Please let us know if that fixed things.

Having this same issue. I've attempted a re-download and no progress. MM is crashing and overloading every time I open with rapidly appearing "Scan for Updated Media Files" messages

Hi,
Please send us debug log using ☰ -> ? -> Send Logs -> Write log ID here before you click OK to send it?

That will give us enough information to see why MMA is notified of newly mounted storage that trigger update scan.

I'm not sure you understand how big of a break this error is. We literally cannot even get the app to open without crashing our phone's UI.

Finally got lucky enough to get through before the app crashed.

mma stuck in "mounted storage.. scan for media files?" loop

Post by lccseh »

hi

it may be coincidence but ever since i installed the latest mma version 2.0.1.1205, either immediately, or shortly after launching, i get a modal asking if i want to scan for media files, and it keeps loading this. very rarely, if i keep pressing or holding "check", it will and then the app seems to function ok for a bit.

here are screenshots. it loops between "usb storage" and what i assume is the id for the sd card: https://photos.app.goo.gl/MGM3Ky7T4CM4rtfP6

i don't think it's my device, where i am using an sd card, because i can use the android Files app, navigate the sd card, and play tracks using the default media player.

if i can ever get back into the app, i will send you a crash log.

what are my options?

thanks,
