I have noticed that a build in the past few months, around August I would say, keeps resetting the Music option under the Windows Default File Types by MM. I actually have the default option set to Windows Media Player, but whenever I either use MM or update to a new build of MM, the default Windows music option seemingly sets the default Music option to MM. How can I get this to stop? This is fairly recent behavior that I would say started around with the RC1 build. I am currently using 3059 which still has this behavior.

Do you maybe have MediaMonkey set to do so under Tools > Options > OS Integration?

If you are referring to the Associate File Types With MediaMonkey option, that's what keeps getting reset. I keep changing it back to Windows Media Player but it resets back to MM each time I run or update it.

Did you check Tools > Options > OS Integration in MediaMonkey?

OK, I'll stick my nose in here as well....

I see a button in the os integration, that brings up windows default file associations. It does not appear to do anything else.

I do not see any option to enable or disable MM to automatically reset my file associations on startup.

That is what I think the OP is asking about. My 2024 installation does not do this.

Is there in fact a hidden setting someplace that would cause it to do this on every startup???

Yes, the Associate File Types With MediaMonkey option is under Tools > Options > OS Integration. That's the only option I see that would relate to this issue. Like RobS said, this only opens the Windows default file settings for programs window and this is where MM keeps resetting the default file type for Music Player for me under here. Is there another option that would cause this under here because there's not much under here that is helpful?

This is on Windows 10 22H2.

If you select Associate by APP and then click on MM does all available formats are associated with MM?

Yes - Associate Files to MM opens Default App settings. When I go in and select Windows Media Player for the default Music Player option under here, there are still plenty of file types still defaulted on MM under the Set Defaults by App settings. Screenshots are below showing how these different types are still on MM. Also, I just updated to RC3 and am still getting the Default Apps reset to MM.

So , Kilo, if you go through and individually re-set every single file type to Windows Media Player, and then go and restart or reinstall media monkey, does it reset any of them to itself??

It should only do this if you ask it to.

Yes, MM resets them by itself when I reinstall 3061, for example, from Windows Media Player to MM. Just to clarify and note, I am not actually clicking or using the Associate File Types With MM option under Tools when I am doing this testing since that option does overwrite the default. This is just from reinstalling 3061 after going through Default Apps in Windows to ensure Windows Media Player is set to default and also going through Windows Default Apps to verify MM changed the default after re-installation.

Can you follow steps to create debug log from https://www.mediamonkey.com/forum/viewtopic.php?t=86643 but make sure DBGVIEW is started before you start MM installation?

Just make sure that formats are not associated to MM before doing all that.

Absolutely. I made ticket 7698 for this issue.
