This is incredibly niche, but something I've long thought about.

My music library sits in excess of 30,000 tracks and I curate using ratings. I may be alone in this, but generally, I have a good sensibility about my rating preference within the first 30-60 seconds of a song.

It would be awesome if an option could be added to the Auto Playlist filters to play a user defined amount of a track and then automatically advance to the next one.

That way one could specify that MM is to play 45 seconds, or 15% or a track (being able to choose time or percentage based values would be very nice), or whatever and then it moves to the next song.

Having that functionality in Windows would be wonderful, and also in the Android client amazing.

Not an unreasonable request to have a % or seconds preview option.

I do something similar when reviewing a new download. Not to rate the file but to allow MMW2024 to lookup lyrics. The way I handle is that I use a HP Windows Media Centre PC keyboard that has a "remote" control with next track. But to "automate" this would be great.

Would you want to "Increase play counter at" to still function? Under playback rules, I have it set to 90%, so typically I do not increment the counter when just looking for MMW2024 lyrics to be looked up. If a new feature was added to "preview play" then an option to apply (or not) the play counter increment would be great.

Anyway, this sounds like a feature request. I would be interested in seeing this.

My desktop workflow is similar to jhwells and when rating lots of songs I concur that after ~ 1 minute I have a good idea of what I am going to at least initially rate a song.

Interestingly enough, I just had my high school grad reunion, and to get a nice representative mix of the music of the era I limited each song to two minutes. I used a secondary app to make custom two minute snippet versions of the songs. This feature would have come in handy for that scenario as well. (would like to see this in the MM Android version too as I had my music on my phone for the reunion)
