What setting causes tracks to redownload just because they've been played? [#21290]

Updated MMA today to 1214 and noticed that any track I now play through completely on my desktop MMW gets redownloaded on MMA next time I run a sync. It's never done this before so I'm wondering what setting forces MMA to re-download a track just because it's been played.
I haven't changed any settings so just wondering why it's started doing this now and what setting I need to change to stop it?

The only setting that I could see that could be remotely related is this one:
But I've had that box ticked for years before (so that it syncs back to my PC any track ratings I change on my phone) and it's never forced tracks to redownload onto my phone just because they've been played on my PC (and it does specify "Sync *from* the device").
I can't see any other setting that would cause my device to re-download tracks after they've simply been played on the PC?

You probably have Force files to
resync whenever the source file has changed (slower) enabled (if on MediaMonkey 2024).

I did have that option checked because I'll often edit and update a source track on my PC and want to make sure it syncs the most recent version to my phone if I make any edits. But it's never forced a track to re-download on my phone just because it's been played on my PC. Why does it force a resync just from playing a file? The source file hasn't actually changed.

Are you sure? Check the Date Modified in Windows if that's really true.

100%. I tested it by randomly playing a handful of tracks on my PC that I know have never been edited and when I did a sync those same tracks got re-downloaded onto my phone even though all I did was play them on my PC.
When I unchecked that option and tested again by playing some more tracks it didn't re-download them on my phone.

I also checked the date modified in Windows just to be sure and it was at least a couple of years ago for most of them.

Which Build (Help > About) of MediaMonkey for Windows are you Syncing with?

Hi,
the issue is tracked as

it's planned to be fixed in the next build.
Thanks.

This issue appears to have resurfaced. I notice that if I play a track on my phone, during the next sync it downloads it again, even though the actual file hasn't changed or been updated. Is it a regression?

Are you sure that the play count was not written to the file?
The current solution may still have unnecessary downloads of tracks in rare cases even if the file has not been modified.
This issue should be completely fixed with MM5 2024.0.0.3029 and MMA 2.0.5.1240(coming soon)

Thanks Martin. My settings are the same as they've always been but I don't know if the play count is written to the file. I thought all media players handled play counts in their own database and not in the file itself (at least that's what all the Googling I did told me).
But it doesn't seem very logical to re-download files when syncing just because they've been played on my phone. The files haven't actually been edited or altered so it seems a bit pointless to re-download them just because they've been played.
I've tested it now - just played a track on my phone in front of me. When it finished I did a sync and sure enough that track was downloaded again.

You're right, if you are only playing, the file is not changed and should not be re-downloaded.
Do you know whether the track is autoconverted during sync?
If you can replicate it, please send a log for analysis.

No, I've got all conversion options unticked in the device profile so it isn't that. It does it for every single track that gets played on my phone. I'll try and get a log when I have a spare minute.
