MMW Collections and Genres Issue [#21628]

I have started using "Grouping" and then filter out those into Collections, however there appears to be an issue with the Genre's under each Collection. As an example, I have a Collection named "Christmas" which is setup to match all "Grouping equals Christmas" and the existing Music Collection is set to include all "Grouping equals Music".

Using just one example with Emerson, Lake and Palmer's Greatest Hits, I set the Grouping for the song "I Believe In Father Christmas" to Christmas, but the remainder of the songs on the album are set to a Grouping of Music.

When I look at the Christmas Collection, in every node (All files, Albums, Artists, Years) I only see "I Believe In Father Christmas" even if I follow the entire tree to the Album. But under Genres, once I click beyond the Genre itself to the Artist name or the Album I see and can play every song on the album. Likewise in the Music Collection "I Believe In Father Christmas" appears and plays with the entire album as well, but only under the Genres node.

I believe this is a bug in the software, and in my opinion it needs to be fixed. I do not want to hear any Christmas music when playing a specific Genre in the Music Collection, and when playing the Christmas Collection I only want to hear the songs in a genre that I have set to Christmas.

I am using: MediaMonkey Gold 2024.1.0.3113

Is this in a Grid view and is it still present on the latest 2024.2 beta?

I do not install Betas, only the releases. I will give you four screen shots to answer your question. First this issue is for all songs and albums under genre for all collections when there is a crossover song on any album which happens more than you would think. The 4th screen shot shows the issue/error. This particular genre (Prog) was chosen because there was only one song to deal with, but if you look at the Pop genre there are multiple ones effected by the issue.

Here is a screen shot of the Christmas collection which is the exact same setup I use for all collections.

Image

This is a screen shot of the Christmas "Artists" node to the actual album and notice the only song is "I Believe In Father Christmas" which is working correctly.

Image

Next is the Christmas "Genre" node selecting the genre itself and notice it too is correct.

Image

The next screen shot shows the issue. Under Genre click the Artist or the Album and the entire album appears. If you play a genre at the Genre node (Prog, Pop, etc) then all songs on the album that are not part of the Collection will play and that is the issue. They should not appear and they should not play unless they are part of the Collection.

I'm unable to reproduce on 2024.2 beta, which received a related fix. Please check this when MediaMonkey 2024.2 is release and report back if the issue is still present for you. (This would mean though that any fix can take a really long time).

How safe is the Beta?

I also use the Portable install. Is that available with the Beta as well?

It's generally safe, issues tend to be in the UI, not with files/database. However it's a beta.

Yes, betas are available as Portable Installs, you can even do a separate Portable Install and use a copy of your database file to just test this issue, then continue using your normal install.

I installed Media Monkey 2024.2 Beta as you suggested, and the issue remained exactly as it was in 2024.1

I would be glad to have a Zoom Web Session with you to show you exactly what is going on if you would like.

It's not the Playlists though - it's the Genres under The Collections.

Yes, that's what I reported when re-opening.
