[REQ] Serious Limitations in Tagging Musicians and Instruments

Dear MediaMonkey Team,
As a long-time user (Gold since 2016) and passionate music collector, I’ve always appreciated the potential of MediaMonkey. But I have to be honest: I find it baffling that a program marketed as ideal for managing large music collections still lacks a proper way to tag musicians and their instruments.
Right now, I’m forced to use custom tags (Tag name / Tag value) to document band members and their roles. This workaround is clumsy, and worse—it’s fragile. None of this data is stored in the audio files themselves, so if I rescan or rebuild my library, all that carefully entered information simply vanishes. That’s not just inconvenient—it’s infuriating.
I’ve spent countless hours curating this metadata, only to see it wiped out due to limitations in the tagging system. For a program that claims to be for serious collectors, this is a glaring omission.
Here’s what I believe MediaMonkey urgently needs:
• Proper support for 'Involved People' tagging (ID3v2.4), allowing name + role/instrument associations.
• Multi-line or structured input fields for musicians and instruments—one line is simply not enough.
• Metadata that’s embedded in the audio files, so it survives rescans and migrations.
• Search and filter options based on musician or instrument, unlocking powerful new ways to explore collections.
I’m not asking for bells and whistles—I’m asking for basic functionality that respects the time and effort serious users invest in their libraries.
Thanks for listening. I hope this gets the attention it deserves.
Best regards,
Rijk Vriesinga
