Halloween is fairly new in our part of the world but is being driven enthusiastically by retailers with an eye to opportunity.

I can't get used to parents on the one hand telling their children "don't talk to strangers" and "don't take sweets from a stranger" and driving them all to school each day because their afraid to let the kids out on their own; then once a year shoving them out the door dressed up a ghouls and hob-goblins to bang on strangers doors demanding sweets!

But anyway, they look cute and we give them apples and health bars, which they hate but makes us feel better about it!

Our big annual celebration is Guy Fawkes which is on November 5th each year. We celebrate a person of the same name that tried to blow up the British parliament in 1605, I still don't know why we do this, but, it is great fun letting off fireworks and blowing stuff up!

On reflection this celebration is no less weird than Halloween :D

Another one of those American holidays. Just pure commercial, the whole idea of most American holidays get lost in the commercial hype they have been come.

Actually some countries in Europe celebrate similar festivals where children go by the doors. These are often small scale and in danger of being pressed out by the American holidays. That's a sad thing.

i believe mexico calls it allsaints day / night? where they celibrate the saint's if i am wrong sorry i only remember what i hear on tv about it in mexico.

paulmt up here nobody gives out apples any more unless sealed in plastic from the store. and health bars most kids never like them. i tried one the first time the other day. i can see why they would be good for you but i am not going to get use to the taste.

most kids up here are taken around by their parents to houses in the neighborhood that are known friends or family that are in an area large enough to get lots of candy but not walk so much. they do ask some of their friends about some other houses and might go to a few that are recomended by the other parents but not known by them.
which is some risk in that but then if they get any unsealed friuts they though them out. nobody will eat them up here since before i was a kid.

because parasites put needles and drugs in them and have hurt and killed many kids by doing that to fruits and even if the candy and fruits are wrapped and sealed we look for any sign of damage to the palstic even if it looks like it was pulled open and reglued shut it won't be eatten.
all because of a few parasite sicko's.
:(

Oh my God that's terrible!
Believe me, there are sicko's everywhere, but we're not that far yet, though nothing would surprise me anymore.

Some people I know who are from North America say it's good for people in the neighbourhoods to get to know each other and I can see that.

The commercialism is only there if you let it be I guess.

As for health bars, I hate them!

Great clip cowboy! Thanks! I may have to play that on Halloween, though we don't get Trick-or-Treaters way out here. :)

thank marinebrat. glad you liked the party sounds.
you could always put loud speakers on the roof and crank it
the whole area would hear halloween music then,
but they might call the police thinking they were under attack
or something.

i was wrong lowlander they call it night of the dead and they celebrate it for about 9 days. with an alter set up for all their past ancesters which they place all the foods of their accestors on and put their accestors names on the foods.

then they have a table of food for the living and it is fill with all the same types of food and other food most of which are made with chocloate, ummmmm :P everyone is to eat the food from the living table only and they gather around the other tables/ alters and give a minute of rememberance of their dead loved ones.

they do that until halloween day which is the first of nov. i think?

that is all i found out on a new televison show. about their holiday for it.
we find out a lot on tv with the shows telling us about holidays.

the celtic were the first to celebrate halloween. they used it as a harvest / night of the dead type of holiday so the food was more like thanksgiving food.

I don't bother with halloween, too comercial. I like bonfire night (Nov 5th) cos I like fireworks and bonfires and sparklers (yes, I'm just a big kid!) :D

@ Trixmoto

I'm with you, I will never get sick of letting fireworks off.

They are under threat big time here now because of (as always) a minority of people don't know how to have fun without pissing a lot of people off!
This may be the last year they are available to the general public for private use.

Just In time for a last minute party tune.

yepper i just updated my page and added a 10 minute tour of the mad scientist's labratory.

it is to be a silent as possible tour or you won't make it out of the dungeon labratory,

but don't worry Egor is there to help you if you can trust egor who will leave you in the middle of the dungeon lab tour if you or anyone screams.

just look and keep quite on this tour. thats all he wants. so listen to him and the tour and enjoy.

site gone
