MM doesn't see MTP (Lumia 920)

I just got a Nokia 920 which works as an MTP device. However, I'm having problems getting MM to see it. I don't have a lot of experience with MM, but I think I get to device configuration via "Options/Portal-AudioDevices/Windows Media compatible". Windows 7 sees the phone via Explorer (but not as a drive letter) which I think indicates that drivers are installed correctly. Also, Songbird (which supports MTP) can sync to this device. I've been toying which switching from JRMC but until now there wasn't much point, but now that WP8 supports MTP I think it means goodness is ahead.
So, what's the next step to troubleshoot this?
