Tag updates not propagating?

I had a couple of albums with bad metadata (one, mmw thought had a release date of 200, even though the field had 2000, and the other I'd somehow managed to forget to put a release date in). I updated those with mmw, and rescanned them in mm8... except mm8 doesn't seem to be catching the tag updates. Does a "Scan folders now" actually trigger mm8 to re-check files it already knows about for changes? Does it ever re-check files?
