Is Auto Tag from Web still available to me?

Hi.

I find the Auto-tag from web feature (and MM's ability to recognise an album as soon as I put the disc in the drive to rip it) very useful to me, but these recently seem to have stopped working again. I wonder if there's anything I can do to get them back.

Here are the specifications of the system I'm using:

LOCATION: England
OPERATING SYSTEM: Windows XP sp3 (I know this is old old old, but I have a PC dedicated to MM and use it for little else, so it doesn't seem worth the money to upgrade the OS - and maybe even the machine - if I don't need to).
MEDIA MONKEY LICENCE: Gold lifetime member
MEDIA MONKEY VERSION: 4.1.4.1709
ENABLED NETWORK OPTIONS: I've not altered these since downloading the new most recent version I have, so they are still showing the defaults, ie Proxy Server Settings is not ticked (and 3 of the 4 boxes are blank, while Port = 80); Query Freedb automatically when connected IS ticked, and the boxes show Protocol = CDDBP (Preferred); Server Name = freedb.freedb.org; Username = anonymous; User domain = some.domain.
AUTO-TAG FROM WEB OPTIONS: Musicbrainz Tagger (this at least tries to find matches, but always comes up with Nothing Found after a minute or so; I've tried all the national versions of Amazon, but they simply shoot back with Couldn't show results. / Socket Error # 10061 Connection refused.)

Thank you for any help you can provide.

Auto-Tag from Web isn't used for CDs. FreeDB lookup is used instead Tools > Get Album info from FreeDB.

Note, the latest release is MediaMonkey 4.1.8.

Hi Lowlander - thank you for the info: I will install the 4.1.8 version and see if that helps.
I'm aware that Autotag isn't for CDs, but once I've ripped a disc (and manually inserted such basic info as Album title and artist, and deleted all the track names which simply show up as Track1, Track2 etc if Freedb isn't working), then Autotag from web used to work quite nicely for identifying the album and allowing me to simply tag the track titles etc.

UPDATE: I just did "Check for updates" and it tells me that 4.1.4.1709 IS the latest version. This chimes with me, as I had thought I'd downloaded a new version only a few days ago.

Am I stuck with typing in a lot of info for each & every track I rip?

That should still work. If Artist or Album is known (both is best) it should be able to locate the Album (you may need to select it from the search/results drop-down.

You can get the newest as a beta .. which almost always is a good as a final release (your mileage may very).

Lowlander is right .. be sure your Artist/ALbum are filled in correctly then Auto-Tag from the web works great. The more info the better the search.

Not here it doesn't. Just tried one - a well known CD album with a simple name and artist name; I even entered the date it was released and the record label ... but it searched for a minute and - as always - came up with "nothing found".

For instance: I just tried it with Lene Marlin "Playing My Game", an album which made #18 in the UK album charts in 1999.

I will try to paste screenshots ...
First while it's searching:

And then when it's done (note "Nothing Found" message:

You're showing it is using MusicIP which is a third-party Addon.

Yup. To fix, click the "Options" button at the top-right of the window and change source to Amazon (UK) or Amazon (US) or whatever other source you prefer to use.

Hi and thank you again for taking the trouble to reply.

However, support for Amazon tagging ceased quite a long time ago (but I checked it again just to be sure): whichever regional version of Amazon I select under "Options", I always get this message in the auto-tag window:

Couldn't show results.
Socket Error # 10061 Connection refused.

If MusicBrainz / MusicIP is now unsupported in the UK, too, I guess the function is off-limits...

There's no reason it shouldn't work as of the latest version. It sounds as if your MM does not have internet access, perhaps it's blocked by a firewall.
