{"id":500,"date":"2020-10-16T12:26:57","date_gmt":"2020-10-16T16:26:57","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.mediamonkey.com\/support\/?post_type=knowledgebase&#038;p=500"},"modified":"2020-10-16T16:31:22","modified_gmt":"2020-10-16T20:31:22","slug":"audio-cds-fail-to-scan-play-rip-or-burn-correctly","status":"publish","type":"knowledgebase","link":"https:\/\/www.mediamonkey.com\/support\/knowledge-base\/cd-dvd-playback-burning\/audio-cds-fail-to-scan-play-rip-or-burn-correctly\/","title":{"rendered":"Audio CDs fail to Scan, Play, Rip correctly"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p>If Audio CDs don\u2019t play, scan, or rip correctly try any of the following, after first verifying that you\u2019re using the latest version of MediaMonkey.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ol class=\"wp-block-list\"><li>Some systems fail to rip\/burn CDs unless logged in with Administrative rights.<br> To get around this: <ul><li>Log in as a Windows User with Administrative rights OR;<\/li><li>Run MediaMonkey in forced Admin Mode (Right Click on MM Icon -> Run as Administrator) OR;<\/li><li>Configure Windows to allow non-Administrators to Burn Discs Verify that CD sound hasn\u2019t been \u2018muted\u2019. Double-click the speaker icon in the system tray, and ensure that \u2018mute\u2019 is not checked off for both Wave\/MP3 and CD Audio.<\/li><\/ul><\/li><li>f you have a CD\/DVD drive that is connected as drive A or B then older versions of MediaMonkey won\u2019t read it. To change this, you\u2019ll need to edit the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.mediamonkey.com\/support\/knowledge-base\/mediamonkey-install-config\/modifying-the-mediamonkey-db-and-ini-files\/\">MediaMonkey.ini<\/a> file and remove the letter A or B as appropriate from the following section:<br><em>[System]<br>IgnoreDriveLetters=AB<\/em><\/li><li>Some systems experience stuttering on CD playback when the CD\/DVD-Rom Access is set to \u201cPIO Mode Only\u201d and not To \u201cDMA if Available\u201d. You can change this in Windows as follows: <ul><li>Right-click on My Computer > click Properties > select Hardware tab > click Device Manager<\/li><li>Right click on the IDE channel to which the drive is connected and select the advanced tab<\/li><li>If PIO is used, change the setting to \u2018DMA if available\u2019<\/li><li>Reboot and check in Device Manager > IDE Channel > Advanced whether DMA is now being used. If it isn\u2019t, click the Driver tab and then click \u2018uninstall\u2019.<\/li><li>Reboot. On reboot, Windows will usually recognize the drive in DMA mode.<\/li><li>Try MediaMonkey again If this fails to set your controller to DMA mode.<\/li><\/ul><\/li><li>If you have multiple drives, try disconnecting any external CD\/DVD drives\u2013on some systems, they may interfere with internal drives.<\/li><li>Some systems will play CDs correctly, but will fail to rip them if the \u2018Rip type\u2019 is set to \u2018Secure read\u2019. Possible solutions\/workarounds are to: <ul><li>Update the CD\/DVD drive\u2019s firmware to the most recent version<\/li><li>Switch Rip Type from \u2018Secure read\u2019 to \u2018Standard read\u2019<\/li><li>Use \u201cCFF Explorer.exe\u201d from <a rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" href=\"http:\/\/www.ntcore.com\/exsuite.php\" target=\"_blank\">http:\/\/www.ntcore.com\/exsuite.php<\/a> to edit the \u2018File Header\u2019 and DISABLE the checkbox \u201cApp can handle > 2GB address space\u201d for MediaMonkey.exe and MediaMonkey (non-skinned).exe.<\/li><\/ul><\/li><li>If you still experience error messages, try deleting the in_cdreader.dll plug-in from the plugins directory (it will be there if you had installed MediaMonkey 2.x prior to installing more recent versions).<\/li><li>Some systems fail to rip\/burn CDs unless logged in with Administrative rights. You can right click where you launch MediaMonkey and select Run as Administrator. <ol><li>If you continue to have problems playing CDs and\/or receive \u201cWin32 Raw_Read\u201d error messages, this may be occurring because you are not logged in as Administrator (Windows NT\/2000\/XP systems use SPTI CD drivers by default, and these can fail if the user is not logged in as Administrator) or because ASPI drivers have been corrupted. Try:<ol><li>Logging out and back in. This sometimes resolves the Administrator problem.<\/li><li>If the above fails, install version 4.6 of Adaptec\u2019s ASPI drivers.<br>More information &amp; working aspi drivers may be found at: <a rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" href=\"http:\/\/aspi.radified.com\/aspi.htm\" target=\"_blank\">http:\/\/aspi.radified.com\/aspi.htm<\/a><\/li><\/ol><\/li><li>On some systems, Virtual CD applications such as Alcohol or DriveImage can conflict with CD Playback and Ripping.
