Synchronizing Your Tags

In some circumstances, the Track properties that appear in the Library will not match those that are in your Tags. Such tracks are displayed in the /Library/Files to Edit/Unsynchronized Tags node with the unsynchronized field highlighted in yellow. Occasionally some tracks will not have any fields highlighted; this is usually the case when fields that do not appear in the tracklist (e.g. comments) are desynchronized. Tags can appear in this node if:

Adding Tracks to the Library. If missing properties are inferred from filenames, tags are not updated.
One version of a tag matches the library (e.g. ID3v2) but another version doesn't (e.g. ID3v1). Note that for MP3 files, the list shown will depend on the configuration at Tools > Options > Library > Tags & Playlists :
If MediaMonkey is set to write ID3v1 Tags: Only Tracks whose ID3v1 properties don't match the Library are shown.

Note: ID3v1 has a number of constraints including: Track#s< 256, field lengths are often limited to 28 characters, and unicode is not supported. Differences between the tag and the library that are caused by these constraints are ignored.

If MediaMonkey is set to write ID3v2 Tags: Only Tracks whose ID3v2 properties don't match the Library are shown.
If MediaMonkey is set to write ID3v1 and v2 Tags: Tracks whose ID3v2 or ID3v1 properties don't match the Library are shown.

Note: ID3v1 has a number of constraints including: Track#s< 256, field lengths are often limited to 28 characters, and unicode is not supported. Differences between the tag and the library that are caused by these constraints are ignored.

A change is made to a Track property, but a malformed tag prevents the tag from being saved correctly.
The option in the Tag Configuration panel to 'Update tags when editing properties' is disabled.

Note: this functionality is active only for the Title, Artist, Album, Date, Comment, Genre fields.

In these cases it is possible to manually update any Tags that are not in synch with the Library. To do so:

1.In the Explorer, select /Library/Files to Edit/Unsynchronized Tags . A list of Tracks with Tags that are not synchronized with the properties that appear in the library, and fields that are not synchronized will be highlighted.
2.Edit any of the Track properties, if you wish.
3.Select the Tracks whose Tags you wish to update with the information that appears in the Library, and click Tools > Advanced Tag Management > Synchronize Tags . The tags will be updated.
4.For some MP3 Tracks, attempts to synchronize tags may fail due to malformed tags. In these cases, use the Clean Tags function to remove the tags and then synchronize tags afternwards.
