As far as bug #1 goes, maybe I should include a picture. I'll do that when I get home tonight.
Basically, I agree with what you said, however, when clicking (or double-clicking) in an area of the screen that doesn't contain any information, I don't think anything should happen at all, besides the current highlighted selection being deselected.
For example, when typing in this text box for posting to the message board, there is a cursor present. However, when I click outside of the text box, to the right, the cursor disappears (i.e. is "deselected"). When I double-click in the same area, nothing happens. This is the type of behavior I would expect in the situation I described in bug #1.
Bug #2 is still frustrating to me. If I am right-clicking on the album art, it's because I would like to edit the album art. Right-clicking elsewhere (album title, artist, song list, etc.) should bring up the longer preferences menu.
