New DB + Rescan Fixed Problem!

by rhand » Thu May 15, 2008 3:55 pm

Hot dog! Renaming the old DB and starting a new DB with a fresh scan fixed all the problems!

I had installed some of the early 3.x betas so that must be where the problem arose.

Artist/Album Artist representation

There was a problem like this in early 3.0.1 beta builds (before the db structure for 3.x was frozen).

Deleting the DB and rescanning should resolve the issue.

Compacting the database made artists disappear!

by rhand » Thu May 15, 2008 5:46 am

This is with 3.0.3.1173 (beta) on Vista Business.

I followed your suggestion of compacting the database (with no other options) and now most of the artists are completely missing from the Artist tree listing. Neither Dawn nor The "E" Types (see my screen caps in above posts) show up at all now even though both artists definitely have songs in the lib.

In short, things are pretty broken.

Maybe I should just start with a fresh library and rescan?

This seems to work OK for me.
What version of MM do you use? (try the latest beta)
Have you tried a compact database?

You can also install the debug version of MM and look at the SQL used in Dbgview. Then you try my Debug-Helper and SQL-viewer script to understand what's going on.

Artist vs. Artist & Album Artist

by rhand » Thu May 15, 2008 3:55 am

After my previous post above I did some more testing ... and the more I look either the more confused I am or the more MM has problems!

I added the Artist tree node, thinking if the problem were Album Artist (a field I never see reason to bother with) then the problem may go away.

Instead I found to my surprise that almost all of the Artists had no sub-nodes and displayed no songs!

Here's a screen cap of Artist & Album Artist:

Now here's the Artist node:

Huh? What happened to the song? The album sub-node has also disappeared.

Here's the tag info for the song in question:

Artist node shows no songs when it should!

by rhand » Thu May 15, 2008 3:28 am

I have many songs with both Artist and Title properly tagged that do not show up in the Artist node even though they show in the Title view!

Here are some screen captures. First, the Title node, which shows everything as it should:

Here's the tag info:

But the song doesn't show in the Artist & Album Artist node!

This is with 3.0.3.1173 (beta) on Vista Business (no SP yet). The same problem occurred with 3.0.2.1134 but prior to that (not sure what version) I'm pretty sure this worked correctly.

TIA,
-Roger

I cleared the Library and am readding. Seems to be working now.

I tried to maintain the library, but then noticed it had added the Composers as Artists.

by just_any_1 » Wed Oct 03, 2007 3:39 pm

Am also having an issue with Artist And Album Artist tree. Had build 1057 and just went to 1081 today.

Under Artists tree node, all the artist are listed and some plus signs appear, but if I click on any of the signs, they disappear and no albums are shown as subs.

by nojac » Fri Sep 21, 2007 5:42 am

The + appears on artists with albums of their own (where they are "Album Artists", the albums come up as subnodes) This seems to work as it should.

The tracks from compilations (Album Artist is different from the Artist name (normally "Various Artists")) should appear directly when selecting an artist, without subnodes.

But someting seems to be wrong here. I have also some empty artist nodes. This happens if the Album name is blank, and if the artists appear only on compilations.

I'm still having this problem, but I don't see others talking about it. I have many folders in the tree pane where there's no + next to the folder. (Most do have a +, but many don't)

On many of the ones that don't have a +, there are no songs that show up under that node.

How can I insert a screen shot?

Sometimes they do and sometimes they don't. For instance, I'm looking at several songs which have "Various Artists" in the Album Artist field where the songs don't show up under the "Artist & Album Artist" node. There's no plus symbol either, even though the songs have an Album and an Artist.

Hi,

Just tested this and on my machine, Tracks _are_ displayed in the Artist & Album Artist node even when they don't have an associated Album.

Are you sure about this?
