I have been using 1089 (B4) for a while, with brand new database and got this "bug" today. The rest of the story is the same: user aborted and everything seems fine again.

Athlon X2 3800+
2GB RAM
ASUS A8N5X

Weird.

Simply put what MM3 is doing, it loads MM2 library and apron its image creates MM3 library. MM2 Library is copied and saved along with MM3 library in <User>\Application Data\MediaMonkey\ folder so do not worry if you think you have lost your database (do not see it in MM2) just copy that MediaMonkey.MDB into My documents\My Music\MediaMonkey and use it separately from MM3 as MM3 only Copy MM2 library if MM3 library is not initialized.

MM is _supposed_ to do the db upgrade once: the first time MM 3 is run (if it doesn't detect a pre-existent MM3 db, and the user agrees to import the 2.5 db).

the part which says "import the 2.5 db" means that a new db is created with the information out of the 2.5 mdb file or it converts the old mdb in a new 3.0 format ??

i´m afraid loosing my data and after i installed mm3 it seems that boths versions using the same db. maybe someone can explain to me how the dual installation works safe 2 prevent data loss or db error in future.

i backupd my db only after the first start (and import process) of mm3 :(

thx

I have
AMD Athlon 64 3700+ on
MSI Amethyst_M 1.0

This happened to me after B4 and since I ran MM a couple of times.

Deleted my entry... it's irrelevant to this thread.. sorry..

This happens to me quite a bit too. It seems to be after running MM3 [latest B4] and then quitting the program and starting it again. Often, the only way to stop the "upgrade" is to restart the computer.

AMD Turion 64 x2 (mobile) TL-52 1.60GHz
Vista Home Premium
Not sure about Motherboard

Just happend to me. By the way I have Vista. This is what happened -
1. was editing tags
2. MM hung - song kept looping
3. had to kill MM
4. restarted mm
5. closed mm
6. noticed a windows dialogue - something like MM has stoped responding
7. tried to restart mm - the it got stuck upgrading the database
8. tried the right control-left shift tab thing - didn't work
9. killed MM and it restart ok.

jiri wrote:It could be a bug. In case anything like this happens to you, please try to press Right Control + Left Shift + Tab keys, which should bring up a dialog that would send us some debug information.

I tried to do this but no dialog is brought up. I killed the process, restarted MM3 and guess... the library continues to upgrade. Suppose I'm stuck with this forever :-?

Maybe if the problem isn't resolved by the time B4 is about to come out, you could add some debug logic to the B4 code that does the library update to dump out the current state of MM3. I noticed some people complaining about this problem in A7.

I will create one, if the bug occurs again...

unneeded upgrades

We certainly hope so. We'll just need a couple of debug reports to get to the bottom of this.
