Are you still here? Could you do a test for me with an updated dll that could resolve the problem?

Ed, the U3 conflict hasn't been resolved. I have the U3 Cruzer Micro 1GB and I haven't seen such an issue. It works fine form me. You could try to generate debug log, but as I know the conflict is there when our CD/DVD engine (Primo Burner) enumerates the CD/DVD devices so I cannot promise you we can do something about this. In case you are about to generate the logs then attach also your C:\hpCDe.log

Nevertheless there are workarounds for the U3 conflict as described here:

I believe it's fixed in MM 3.1

found the same problem with my U3 4Gig, changed the ini file like explained here, and it worked.

The programs didn't freeze any more and u3 was recognized by MM3... until i put a cd in it... same problem like before

have it on 2 diffrend systems... but my u3 was auto updated some weeks ago... i tought that i had no problem with my u3 and MM3 before the update of the u3 (because i have no internet connection its possible the u3 wasn't updated for a loong time

same here... mediamonkey (latest version with iphone support) and U3 2gb sandisk wont work together; the mediamonkey.ini trick does solve the problem though

Ludek,

I'm using MM3.0.3.1140 (beta)
It make Freeze explorer.exe and MM3 (running leasing songs) repeat the last seconds of the last song when I plug in the U3 flash drive.
but also If I running before the U3 launchpad and
then open MM3 it makes the U3 launchpad stop responding
and also the explorer.exe (windows explorer) but
the song leasing with MM3 don't repeat again the last seconds,
so mm3 keep going throught the song list.

1. Does it happen always or is it an occasional issue?

Everytime, and I have disable the autorun of "U3 launch".

Quote:
2. Could you someone generate a debug log and send it me at ls @ mediamonkey.com?

Sorry, how do you generated "debug log"???

Quote:
3. Which OS/system do you use?

Win XP MCE 2005 (updated) HP Pavilion dv2000t Intel Core 2 Duo 2.0Ghz, 1GB RAM; AV Bitdefender 2008; WMP11

Quote:
4.Do you have any additional software installed on your U3 device or do you use only the default set for Cruzer Micro?

The problem occurs even before I launch the U3 application.

Quote:
6. Ensure that it is not related to WMDM plugin which is also accessing this drive.
i.e. Remove the d_WMDM.dll from 'Plugins' subfolder and see if it helps.

Done.

7. Which U3 model/device dou you have?

Sandisk Cruzer Micro 4GB with U3 Launchpad v.1.6.1.1 and
the ADAPI is v. 4.7.0.9 (maybe ADAPI is also important
to this problem)
You can check the version of the U3 Launchpad by opening the Launchpad menu and clicking on "Help and Support",
choose "About U3 Drive".

Cheers
JC.WILCOX

P.S.: I also don't want to uninstall my U3 launchpad

I will try to use the mm.ini fix

The u3 software also crashes with me on anything that recognizes CD drives.

It seemed to break my Nero pretty good, but its a handy program to have when im at Work, so uninstalling it isnt really an option :(.

I can create a debug log if needed?

No, as far as I know the issue was never "fixed". Personally I don't know how feasible a "fix" is, as U3 software crashed basically any program that reads a CD drive for me.

I've found you can get all the same functionality of a U3 drive, without the errors, for free, and compatible with any drive from sites like http://portableapps.com/ .
You could also try http://www.portablefreeware.com/

I've done the same. I hate the U3 launchpad, its not only MM that I've had problems with - pretty much any other program that can detect a CD drive locks up when the drive is loaded.

I uninstalled the U3 launchpad and it seems not to interfere with MM anymore.

Ludek wrote: For those who have same problems (about freezing) there are only 2 (not ideal) workarounds

1. If you do not need to use U3 capabilites you can use this (Windows XP):
Note: You will need to have Administrative privileges to do this.

Right Click On My Computer -> Properties -> Hardware -> Device Manager -> DVD/CD-ROM devices and Disable U3 CD-Rom (Right Click -> Disable). But this probably cause that you will not be able to use the device as U3, but as a classical memory disk.

2. In MediaMonkey.ini file there is parameter
IgnoreDriveLetters=AB
You can expand it to e.g.
IgnoreDriveLetters=ABGD
Where G: is U3 system in my case and D: is my CD/DVD drive
Then Primo should not conflict with U3 then, but we use this engine to reading/writing CDs/DVDs, so you will not be able to access e.g. audio CD inserted to D: via explorer tree.

I will let you know once we resolve this somehow better.
Please let me/us know when you have a better solution. Neither of these will work for me because a) I'm not giving up my U3 functionality [I find it very useful and it's one of the reasons I buy SanDisk drives]; and b) I'm using MM to sync to my flash drive, so obviously it has to recognize the drive for that to work.

I just set up my MM.ini to ignore the virtual CD Drive setup by the Sandisk U3 Cruzer (K: for me) and it works perfectly. I can still access the real removeable L: without any issues.

Thanks for the tip.
