If I go into Itunes and get info on the songs, the ignore shuffle attribute is checked. I uncheck it and they play fine.

Ignore shuffle

hmm... that might be a bug.... the fact that if you make a config change to ignore or not ignore shuffle, and when MM syncs, the iPod DB isn't updated to reflect that change.

To work around this, just delete the tracks from your iPod manually (i.e. from within the iPod node) and resync. Let me know if that does the trick.

I did have a filter set to ignore shuffle, but i thought this controlled playback in MM and not on the Ipod itself. I have turned off the filter, and did another auto-sync, but it still won't shuffle songs on the ipod....

how do i completely remove MM3 from my pc? I'd like to start fresh with default settings and default playlists and see if I can recreate the problem...

I'm still having the problem with shuffle mode on the Ipod Nano 3G, anybody else, can you confirm this?

I've uninstalled 1105 and gone to 1109, and also upgraded the firmware on the Nano to 1.0.3

by JoeTX » Fri Nov 30, 2007 1:34 pm

I have MM3 (1105) installed on my home pc, running Windows XP and MM3 (1105) installed on my work pc, also running Windows XP. Autoplaylists created on my home pc and sync'd have the problem, autoplaylists created on my work pc and sync'd DON'T have the problem. Weird!

Tonight, I'll uninstall MM from my home pc and reinstall 1109, that you have out now,I was waiting for 1110, but I'll go ahead and see if that fixes the immediate problem...

I still can't reproduce, anyone else?

Btw, isn't it somehow caused by incorrect settings of filters, i.e. that some of your tracks are considered to be AudioBooks or Podcasts and thus aren't included in Shuffle?

Apple is playing M$ game now???

by JoeTX » Fri Nov 30, 2007 10:44 am

Boy, Apple really threw non iTune mediaplayers for a loop on the latest version of their databases.

From the research I've done, it looks like there is a shuffleflag that needs to be set to a value of 0x01 in order for the song to be playable in shuffle mode. Its probably defaulting to 0x00 or not being set in your code.

More info at

http://ipodlinux.org/ITunesDB

For Audiobooks and Podcasts, 0x00 is the preferred value, but songs should be set to 0x01.

Create playlist in MM3 (1105), sync it to Nano 3G. I have the playlists selected for auto-sync.

Disconnnect the Nano.

Try to play a playlist on the Nano, if the Shuffle feature is set to Songs, then only 1of1 or 1of4 songs will play, no matter how many songs are in the playlist. Most of my playlists have more than 70 songs.

Turn the Shuffle feature on the Nano to Off, then try and play a playlist. All the songs will play in succession, ie 1of80, 2 of 80, etc.

Reconnect the Nano to the computer, create a playlist in iTunes and sync to Nano, disconnect the ipod.

In either mode of Shuffle, all songs will play in the playlist.
Sorry, that post above is mine, didn't realize I wasnt logged in.

Another interesting thing is even if the shuffle feature is set to off on the Nano, if you select "Shuffle Songs" from the main menu, it will show that it will shuffle 283 songs (all that are on my Nano right now) and then when it starts to play, it will only show that 1of23 songs will play. 23 is the number of songs in the iTunes created playlist.

Nano 3g - only playing limited number of songs [4135]

by JoeTX » Wed Nov 28, 2007 3:57 pm

I have several autoplaylists sync'd to my Nano 3G. Most of them are 70 to 80 songs. If I have Shuffle turned on, it will only play 4 or 5 songs before stopping. If you select a song from a playlist, it will either say 1 of 1, or 1 of 4. And most every time, it will only play the same 4 songs, if that many. If I turn Shuffle off, it will keep playing songs.

Using MM3 (1105)

To confirm it is a MM problem. I ran iTunes and created a playlist on my iPod. Disconnected, and the playlist shows the full count of songs and plays them all. Selecting a playlist created by MM still only shows 1 of 1 or 1 of 4...
