Re: ipod nano 2gb - songs won't play

I've had the same problem! My ipod was working great with MM until I upgraded to the latest version of MM and I decided to delete all of my music on the ipod and add new music. Interestingly enough, music I had loaded prior to the upgrade still work but not any music I added afterwards. At first, I thought it was because I was using ''send to ipod'' instead of synchronizing it through the menu. That didn't change anything. I checked that it wasn't my ipod, since I was able to sync it through itunes no problem.

If you're using your ipod as a flash drive to store files, try to move that folder holding your files to another drive on your computer and leave the files that are default for ipod... mine played again normally, i have ipod nano 1st gen (4GB)

What are you asking? You configure the iPod plugin under Tools -> Options -> Device configuration, then pick your iPod plugin and hit configure.

wat do u look in?

Under the compability settings, are "Force iTunes-style folders" and "Trim path and/or filename length to 31" checked? If not, check them and try loading the iPod again.

Huh! Not on my old 3G! I guess it doesn't surprise me that they've crippled later ones. Rockbox does look like a good option.

However, one of the reasons we use MM is so we can have the hideous iTunes style folders turned OFF and use our choice of file-naming convention, so this isn't much use.

(Off-topically, I just tried to put Rockbox on my 3G; it ran far too slowly though. I'm stuck using the firmware again. :()
You HAVE to have the force iTunes style folders on as well as trim file length to 31 characters; this is a limitation of the iPod software. If both options are not checked then your songs simply won't all play properly. These options should also be selected the very first time you synch with MM (from a fresh iPod) or you are going to have problems. If don't want iTunes style folders you'll have to install rockbox or iPod linux.

That's just rebooting the iPod, no? I'm fairly sure we tried that several times with my brother's. Still, glad if it works for you.

seemed to work for me

I've been having the same problem, and I've had my Ipod less than a week(!) But solved it by going to the Apple site which suggested the following:

1. Toggle the Hold switch on and off. (Slide it to Hold, then turn it off again.)
2. Press and hold the Menu and Select buttons until the Apple logo appears, about 6 to 10 seconds. You may need to repeat this step.

After holding Menu it played fine. Hopefully this will solve it for good.

Update: turning on "iTunes style folders" and "Trim paths/filenames" mostly worked for the 5thG/80Gb iPod. Some songs still aren't playing, but I'm going to see if rebuilding the device database works.

Same Issue 2GB Nano

by Solusvir » Sun Feb 25, 2007 11:30 am

I have the same issue... sucks because I HATE being forced to use the iTunes crapware.

Loaded a 2gb Nano and songs were skipped or the Now Playing screen would stick on a Song name and the songs that would play would continue.

Thought it was the iPod and traded it in (used it as an excuse to the wife to upgrade to 4gb, Thanks for that!)... anyway same issue.

Com'on guys fix MM for Nano, I love your program but can't use it!!!!

I've had the same problem with my 3G, "Force iTunes style..." and truncating filenames options turned off, but rebuilding the device database works. Sometimes I have to do it twice, but the mp3s play after that.

However - my brother's new 80Gb 5th gen is having the SAME problem and nothing seems to work.

yeah me too

by oneiro » Wed Feb 21, 2007 12:55 am

It's such a pity because I like MM. At least I could use it to organize my files, but I'd like to throw out Itunes.

Info: 80gb brand new ipod, all updated. I don't have 'force I tunes style' or truncate names turned on . . .

I had it working and running, but after I fixed thousands of file tags using MM i decided to wipe the drive and reload using MM. Mp3's, not file protected. I reload everything fine, rebuild the database for good measure. Just like the above problems: MM and even Itunes will play the files off of the ipod, but I eject and put in my headphones- and nothing plays.

My Ipod 'looks' at songs for a moment, then decides not to play it, only to move along and decide not to play the next song an instant later. I am about to (again) wipe my songs and pod, but this time reload via Itunes. :-( I was soooo loooking forward to deleting I tunes.

Anyways. very interested in how to resolve this.

I am having a similar problem with my 80g ipod video. About 1/3 of the songs get skipped an won't play. I will try to restore then transfer again to see if that fixes it - if not I will have to abandon MM :(

by weirdlyspazoid » Mon Feb 12, 2007 7:43 pm

no, i dont think thats it for me at least. all the files i have are mp3. i've tried restoring the ipod and trying again but it comes out the same way. a lot of songs skipped and only a few playing properly

I'm not really sure, but I would give it a shot.

Maybe you guys are trying to sync .wma files? iPods don't play them.
