Thanks for the tips, I got my Winamp (5.531) ratings imported to Media Monkey (3.302.1134) and I'm running Windows Vista. You all have been so helpful and I really appreciate it.

Thanks much and take care! :D

Can't I have .ini and db in the same folder as MM3? How?

Also, any way to import ratings and playcounts from musicIP?

Thanks

i've already redone my library from scratch filewise.. but i would LOVE to be able to port over my play counts...

I would have used it before Winamp crashed and lost all my ratings and playcounts so there was no point. Why do you think I switched?

Thanks Rusty! I was mainly concerned that I was doing something wrong on my end. I'll be looking forward to whenever it is completed.

Winamp db import

by rusty » Mon Jan 21, 2008 3:34 pm

Cesium,

I just tried the latest version of Winamp and it seems that MM doesn't read the DB from newer versions.

We'll look into this, but I'm not sure when it'll be fixed--it seems that few people actively used the winamp db upgrade feature.

Is your Winamp database stored in the default location on your drive?
Did MM2 import the same Winamp database?

You mentioned that you were using Winamp 5.51. I don't know if Winamp changed its database structure recently but its possible it uses a new database that MM doesn't recognize (.. again I'm just speculating here). If you can rule out the questions I asked above I suggest you email your Winamp database to support <at> mediamonkey <dot> com as they would be able to help you with your specific problem.
Everything is at its default location. I did not use MediaMonkey for anything besides organization until recently, so I never bothered to try to import my winamp database.

I shall e-mail them now, thanks!

thank you both! i am on XP, and I had looked in application settings before, but not the one in local settings.

i tried it, and it comes with the popup, but for some reason it does not detect winamp?? im using winamp 5.51 (i think i originally installed winamp after installing mediamonkey 2.5, but i dont know why that would be the issue)

i also just reinstalled winamp (and restored old play count and rating settings), but mediamonkey still wont recognize it

MM.DB and Mediamonkey.ini default file locations:

Windows XP:
C:\Documents and Settings\<USERNAME>\Local Settings\Application Data\MediaMonkey
Windows Vista: C:\Users\<USERNAME>\AppData\Local\Mediamonkey

It does, just in a different location.

In Vista, it now resides in C/users/%user%/AppData/local/MediaMonkey

Not sure about XP, but it is something similar.

No prompt to import Winamp database

by cesium » Tue Jan 15, 2008 1:40 am

Hi, I have been using mediamonkey for quite a while (had 2.55, and updated to 3).

i want to switch over to mediamonkey from winamp for everyday usage, and its said that upon install, mediamonkey will ask for database import.

i tried reinstalling 3x (restart in between, registry cleaned, deleted mediamonkey folder, etc) but i dont get the prompt.

i found another old post with instructions:

Code: Select all

http://www.mediamonkey.com/forum/viewtopic.php?t=15745&highlight=winamp+database
however, mediamonkey.ini does not seem to exist in 3.0.

how can i fix this?
thnx

EDIT: I have imported my ratings using the playlist method, but I really need to get my play counts imported.
