You're right. The play count file isn't in the ipod control/itunes folder. Is there anyway to allow for the file to be created...

Thanks.

I do think the iPod knows that the song has been played. When I view the song from the iPod node, the playcount and timestamp indicate that the song has been played. It's just that the information doesn't sync back to the MM library.

Right. Check the drive when it's connected to your computer. Look on the iPod under iPod_Control\iTunes and look for PlayCounts. If that file isn't there, MM probably won't update anything. The ipod database might get updated, but it doesn't create a PlayCounts probably because they're assuming you're using iTunes to do it which would update its own counts.

The only way I've ever gotten things to sync back was if that file was there.

Your Ipod does not know that you are playing the song. It is just connected as an external drive. MM would need to update the file on your ipod.

Mine doesn't update the playcount either when playing through MM.

It seems that it's an iPod function. The iPod doesn't create the PlayCount file MM seems to need to update the play counts when it's playing through the computer. The system probably just downloads the file onto the PC and plays it from there.

Thanks... I don't have any trouble with the ratings synchronizing from the iPod. The last played / counts, etc. also sync from the iPod to MM, but only when I play my iPod while it is disconnected from MM.

When I use my iPod as a "drive" for MM (at work), the last played / counts don't sync back - even when I check the setting to sync from device to pc.

Thanks, again, for your willingness to try to help me out.

As an experiment to see if tag changes will transfer from your pod to the monkey....
Synch your pod. Play a song all the way through. While its playing manually rate it with your pod. Re-synch and check and see if rating has changed in the monkey.

I tried this today, but the "last played" timestamp did not transfer from the ipod to the pc.

Any suggestions on what I might do?

Thanks much.

Thanks for your help. I'll give it a shot!

Should be the ticket. :)

No need to worry about dupes....
:-? At least that has not been a problem for me.

No. I wondered about that. I was afraid to check the box, because I don't want duplicates.

Is that the best way to accomplish what I'm hoping to accomplish?

Thanks for the reply.

Under Auto-Synch options do you have "Auto-synch tracks from the devise to the PC" checked?

Ipod Sync Question

by steinmanal » Wed Jan 30, 2008 3:04 pm

I auto-sync my iPod on my home desktop PC.

I also play my iPod through my laptop at work - using MM. (I don't have the iPod configured to auto-sync on my laptop.)

After I play the iPod at work and sync at home, I notice that the "Last played" timestamp doesn't sync back to my PC at home, even though it shows up on my iPod.

I would like for the playcount, timestamp, etc. to sync back to my home PC after I've played my iPod through MM on my work PC.

I hope my question makes sense.

Thanks for any assistance.
