Personally, I like the 12x Lite-On DVD-RW, dual layer. It can burn up to 8.5 GB per disk (one-sided). Of course, if you use the dual layer option, you can only read the disk in that or other d/l drives. I've had it for awhile now, and I like it.

It is not expensive, but it is almost always only found online.

I have an older (8x) version of this NEC.
It works quite well and it's cheap. Reviews for my model, the 2500A, where generally very good. I'm assuming the 3520A is made to a similar standard, but I can't guarantee that.

Well I've discovered its definitely my CD drive - it refuses to burn CDs now also.

Anyone like to recommend a DVD writer? ;)

MM by default is somewhat slower than other applications. MM has choosen for quality over speed. Some settings can improve the speed of ripping, but will potentially reduce the quality of ripping.

I had the same issue when I also used an old CD-drive with AudioRipper to rip CDs. The problem was the dirty haed of the CD-drive which caused the drives head to read the same sectors again and again to get the info. In my case a lens-cleaning-cd helped for a while till I got a new drive. :)

I'm perfectly willing to accept that my CD drive is on its last legs and needs replacing, but just in case - are there any options I may have selected somewhere that could potentially cause the CD ripping process to become incredibly slow? We are talking about 2 minutes per track at the moment, when in the past I was getting a whole CD done in 5 minutes.
