Well, you can allways do this in Win XP if you are admin.
Try to track problem in 'Administrative Tools/Computermanagment/storage/Disk Managment' by manyaly assign Drive letter for each of your connected drives when they are connected. Win XP uses these values whenever this drive is available. I fixed similar issue with confilict of my MP3Stick and External Drive Both have used same drive letter when only one is connected but worked Ok when both are connected. Solve vas to assign manualy each drive different letter.

Reson for that Bug is Win Hiarachy: Removable Ocupy first available letter if it is available, unless specified manualy. It is simple MS-DOS leftover.

Patriots, ey? Sort of predictable but I upgraded to build 839 anyway so the following concerns the latest build.

Okay, I've actually found a reference to an H drive in System Info - says it is a local drive and has an "N/A" on all other topics. Which made me remember that I have a multi-card reader in my PC that disappeared one of these days and was mapped to H/I/J/K. This may have something to do with it and I'm trying to find out more via support for PC and card reader. I'm not that fluent in Windows so I have no idea how to solve that one myself (would appreciate any hints or assistance).

So this may be the reason for the H drive shown in MM.

Still, this leaves me with the DVD and CD drives showing media that are definitely not there. Mind you, once I put a CD in there, it is correctly displayed, I can add it to the library - all functionality is there. It is just on an empty drive that the nonsense is displayed.

If MM shows H: drive then there's definitely some reason for it, it can't be only some internal MM settings. The fact that explorer doesn't show it is strange though. You can try whether some system tool doesn't find more about it (e.g. try SysInfo that can be executed from MM's About box), or try whether there isn't some network drive connection active (in Explorer, Tools|Disconnect Network Drive...).

Problem automagically solved: When I mapped the external drive to another letter, MM detected it as connected and all is well.

However, this made me notice that in the "My Computer" node, there is actually a drive letter H which is not related to any drive in the real world - Windows Explorer does *not* show this letter and there is definitely no device mapped to it. Also, according to "My Computer", both my (empty) CD drives have a CD (the same) in them. Looks like there is something not being updated in that node. This may have been the case for some time but I never really noticed it until I had the above hard drive problem.

I looked into the ini but found no trace of any obsolete entries there. Is there a way of cleaning up the node?

never tried this before so I don't know whether it's an issue with RC1 (Build 836): I have an external USB2 harddrive mapped to drive H on my PC. That harddrive is named EXT. Added the drive and its contents to the library.

BUT, with the drive in place and all, the contents are greyed out. In the Location node, I see the correct name (EXT) but not the drive letter behind it.

In the Computer node, the drive letter appears but not the name of the disk. Windows Explorer shows drive letter plus name.

Am I doing something wrong or is this a bug?
