Gif support wasn't originally planned and was added later in the release cycle. Therefore there isn't a mask for it added yet, it will be in future versions.

I can't remember if I posted this or not:
The album art dialog will accept GIFs and the program handles GIFs just fine. But the little Open filter that shows acceptable file extensions doesn't include GIFs. It should be very easy to update this filter to include GIFs.

In the meantime, you can load (and see) GIFs by typing (*.gif) in the open file text area. Then you can select the GIF you want.
