directcut (which was recommend a few minutes ago my someone else on another forum) is a good solution. clips out the section of the file with a recompression stage needed. MM doesn't need a internal solution to this, we don't need this to turn into a full blown editor as well as library app. just a script that would let you do this by a side effect would have worked for one song for this purpose.

managing the music for my cousins wedding. so i dont need a 30-45 second dead space if i can help it.

There was a post about something similar here http://www.mediamonkey.com/forum/viewtopic.php?t=27152. I'd appreciate an MM internal solution, too, since it already is able to skip silence at the end. Until then I use mp3DirectCut.

thats what i want, but a mashup script would work against a single song as well i suspect. Either way it looks like i am just stuck with the edit of the song. I'll look into those. thanks.

I poked around a bit and here are some editing solutions:

http://www.deepniner.net/mp3trimmer/
http://www.dvdvideosoft.com/products/dv ... io-Dub.htm
http://mpesch3.de1.cc/
http://www.nch.com.au/wavepad/masters.html
http://www.wavosaur.com/

I can't pretend to know how well any of these programs work.. but it appears that you can use all of them on at least a trial basis. It sounds like you want the script for more than just cutting out the space of one song, so maybe I'm still off the mark here.

Audacity won't do it. it reencodes, thats the step I'm trying to avoid. I didnt know if there was a script for playing certian sections of a song allowing someone to make a mashup type song, 30 of this, 20 of that, 30 of another, etc. Looks like the recompression is unavoidable with its increased loss of data.

Have you tried using Audacity?
It seems like you should be able to just edit the MP3 using that.

I feel pretty confident that an editing solution is going to work much better than a scripting solution in this case.

does a script exist for this purpose? i need to skip the last 45 seconds of a song thats just total blank space since i can't find a program to cut it out and not reencode the file back to MP3. would rather it just save the cut version as MP3 but not compressed a second time. something says that a difficult prospect thou.
