This issue is not limited to win7. It affects my lenovo t400 running windows xp. By default, the installation installs AHCI drivers and the bios is set to AHCI. When I attempt to roll back to compatibility mode I get the blue screen. Further, it is not preferred for me run in compatibility mode as it would slow my computer down substantially.

I have been a MM gold user for a long time and would hate to have to switch to another alternative. Please add AHCI support to MM. With Win7 staring us in the face and since AHCI is essentially standard, complaints of this problem will only continue to grow.

Considering that Win7 is still Beta in my personal opinion it is more stable than Vista prior to SP1.

I guess my best hope is to kick back wait for windows 7 to be released and become stable. If I have issues then I will get back to the forum.

Vista have different issues with CD access Rights which http://www.fortedownloads.com/Poikosoft-BurnRights/download.html fixed but It looks that AHCI support additional/different commands (wild guess) where MM CD-Text Reader do not like (Unfortunately I can't confirm as I Only have IDE Burners), also AHCI under XP is very unstable if not usable and under Vista not all SATA/AHCI controllers have Native Vista drivers.

Above articles I posted are intended to give additional information/understanding about problem and not give solution to it.
My guess was that Win7 will fix most bugs(incomplete features) introduced with Vista and that would be real solution to problem.

Switching to vista never really worked. I thought it did but must have switched to compatibility mode.

Anyways I wiped the drive, reinstalled XP with achi enabled. MM locked up the system while inserting a disk. After a long while it would resume, unmounting the CD drive. which is like what one of your links refer to. none of the other programs had issues which accessed the cd drive. itunes worked ripping, VLC seemed fine.

I wiped the drive again. reinstalled xp with all its patches, this time with compatibility mode set.

Now MM and everything else works, just slower. And that is where I have been for my last few posts.

With itunes and other things that access the CD drive working with achi mode set, I wonder why only MM has issues working? Does it access the drive different then itunes? or VLC?

Hmmmm.. I must confess that this is indeed interesting question.

ACHI is more made for Vista than Windows XP due the driver changes, I automatically change ACHI(or RAID) to IDE/Compatibility mode on each PC I service and reinstall OS due the lots of incompatibility and possible problems.

Not sure how (have not personally done any though tests) and why but it looks that there is big gap in SATA <-> AHCI communications which should be fixed in SATA II but we will see how it will work in Win7 as drivers/manufacturers should solve most of them:

Running my sata drives in compatibility mode has crippled my system. It runs slow, seeming to hang servicing interrupts.

The only other program besides mediamonkey that does not work in ACHI mode that I have is an old version of partition magic. and I don't care about partition magic.

I really need to run in ACHI.

Is there any development on running on ACHI mode? Is there any workarounds?

i think mediamonkey does work with the cdrom directly. but i can't say for sure maybe one of the scripters can? :)

It did not really work with the upgrade to Vista.

But I did end up reinstalling XP and figured a fix.

There is a setting in the BIOS config for sata. It comes with it set to ACHI mode. I switched it to Compatibility mode.

Do you guys know why this would effect mediamonkey? Does mediamonkey directly talk to the hardware? Is there a fix that would let me run it in ACHI mode?

With no other suggested fix, I upgraded to vista and everything works now.

I got it to work! Not on the current version, I removed the new 3.X version off my system, and installed 2.2.2998.

Unregistered 2.X seems happy with the drive, and system. Even does CD lookup.

So how do I get 3.X to work?

In the device manager it does not have the typical dma/pio mode under ide ata/atapi controllers. this might be mounted as sata?

maybe a tweak for the .ini will fix it?

then the idea it is something dealing with the dvd that is messing with monkey might be the reason.

It is the stock dvd/cd-rw that came with it.

All updates as of last week from microsoft and lenovo were applied.
