Thanks a lot. Got it to work. It's scripts like this that make me love MM. :)

Before you start you should setup a/some profiles if you want to use the same copy/paste features more than once. You can do that by going to Tools - Options - Library - Advanced Duplicate Find & Fix - and select the Configure Default Copy/Paste Action or right clicking on a track after you have copied metadata and selecting the Configure Defaults. You can save three defaults for each of the three types of Copy/Paste categories. It is not necessary but it does help if you want to use different default actions. But once you are ready to begin:

1. select the tracks you want to copy
2. right click and select the Copy Metadata
3. select the tracks you want to paste
4. right click and select Paste Metada
5. The menu will bring up the three defaults, or a manual paste (which you can use for situations where you do not have a default setup) or a single to single/many to single paste (this one will depend on the number of tracks you have copied.
6. If you pick one of the defaults it will process the track as you set it up, if you pick the manual selection it will bring up the box for you to select the actions to take. If you pick the single to single/manual to single it will only replace the field which you select on the sub-menu.

The defaults will be the easiest to use if you have a lot of tracks to process. Hope this helps but if not, look on the first page of the Advanced Duplicate Find & Fix script, Bex has written some instructions on how to use the script. Or you can post questions there and he or others will be able to help you.

It's probably just me, but could you point me in the right direction on how to do what I want with this script? :)

Yes, its just a simple copy/paste. If you're doing a lot of tracks at a time, make sure both lists are in the same order before copying/pasting!

Great, thanks. So if I just add my flac files I should be able to transfer the mp3s's properties before deleting them?

Yes, it does retain play data and even playlist links.

Unfortunately I don't, otherwise I would have included the name.

There is a script to copy tags from one file to another. I don't know if that includes play data though. You can check out scripts in the Scripts and Components forum.

Replacing tracks - keep rating and plays

by hernil » Wed Oct 15, 2008 12:33 pm

Hi. I'm replacing some old 128kbit/s mp3s with freshly ripped flacs, in that occasion I would like to keep my ratings, plays, taging etc. from the old files. The new files are ripped with EAC and they will have track name and album name. Is this a plausible thing to do?
