A “Force Play Next Song” feature or a “force Play Next while in shuffle” option would be nice so you can play a song next in the queue without turning off shuffle just to turn it back on again(when the song that you “Force Play Next” has finished playing it will go straight back to its normal Shuffle mode). COOL OR WHAT??? :D
It's funny because I was just thinking that would be a nice function on my iPod this week. For the most part I don't use MM for actually listening to my music but I get what you're saying.

I was playing a Playlist on my iPod which has multiple Artists and has all the singles from a particular Artist grouped together in a sequential fashion. I normally play this particular playlist with Shuffle Mode turned on. A song started playing from a particular Artist and I was like...."Oh!!! I want to listen to this other song by that same Artist". So since I was in Shuffle mode, I skipped forward and of course it jumped to some other artist's song....where I just wanted to jump to the next song within that Playlist. So I had to press the "Track Dwn" button, to go back to the original Artist's song, go through 3 menu screens to turn my shuffle operation off, go back to my Now Playing Menu, then press the Track Up button, just so I could go to the next Track on the Playlist. :(

So yeah, having a "Force Play Next" button while shuffle is turned on would have been very nice in that scenario. :)

The way that it's done in cars on the steering wheel controls where you just have a Track Up and Track Down button (ie Same as MediaMonkey) is that if you Press and Hold the Track Up/Dwn button for longer than 1 Second (Referred to as a "Long Press") then it Skips to the next track while in Shuffle mode, but if you do a "short press" (Less than 1 sec press), then it continues in the Shuffle mode Track Up operation. I could see how something similar in MM could be useful and the way I outlined could be implemented into MM without having to add any additional buttons to the GUI.

Maybe MM could offer a similar "Short Press" and "Long Press" Track Up/Track Dwn" function to those buttons. Seems easier than right clicking, more buttons, randomize list options that were previously suggested.....at least it seems that way to me and is already a common/familiar way to do this in cars and also remote controls already implemented in a lot of products with the same functionality (i.e. No need to re-invent the wheel)

Thanks, that appears to be it - I think I had it at the default, but couldn't swear to it: under Tools -> Options -> Player -> 'Play Now' action, the setting that was causing the reset behavior was 'Clear tracks & play selected + subsequent'; changing it to 'Play selected tracks only' seems to have fixed it, i.e. the randomized list is not affected other than to put the selected song into the current position and shift everything else down as-is.
Quick answer - much appreciated!

I guess it's your settings under Tools > Options > Player that clear the list and adds all subsequent tracks.

Randomize works great with Play Next - but if you pick a song from the library to Play Now, it automatically sorts the now playing list alphabetically getting rid of the randomization... any solutions for that?

You could try my new add-on Queue List.

I find that using Randomize list and then turning off shuffle is exactly what you guys are asking for. Then you can just look at the list and see what played previously. Solved my problem at least.

any script for the solution ?

any short cut keys for the solution, or at least to work around ?

thanks

A workaround for the current issue is to use Randomize List instead of shuffle.

Shuffling should work more like in Winamp which works quite good here.

- Enqueuing any song as next song plays it as the next song, no matter whether shuffle is on or not.
- Navigating back or forward through the current playlist remembers the shuffled order. MM does only do that for navigating backwards, not forwards.

Ah, makes sense!

I meant something to force to play the last song in the nowplaying queue instead of the song effectively played previously
(which is the behavior of the "previous track" button.)

Doesn't MM already do this natively?

It could be nice to add a right click context menu to the next track button in the player with “Force Play Next Song”
And add “Force Play Previous Song” to the previous track button.

MM can’t use the “Play Next” feature to play the next track in the Now Playing queue while in Shuffle Mode. To do this u have to turn off shuffle for it to play the next song in the queue. :D
