I can confirm that ratings are always synched back from the Sansa (Fuze) without option to not do that, and that bomb ratings are broken. In fact, half-star ratings are also broken (the synch will update MM and lose all half-stars). I think this is an MTP-specific issue. The only workaround I could find, which I have implemented, was this: Only use 1-5 star ratings, no half-stars or zero stars allowed. This was kind of a pain, though I don't mind it much now that it's done.

Repeated for clarity: use MTP, synch to Fuze, synch back and all of your half-star and bomb ratings for songs that were synched will be overwritten with wrong values, without the option to turn off ratings synch.

The problem is here that if you use both (unrated and 0 star) in MM then it will overwrite everything. I think the best solution would be to update it only if in MM the rating is different (1-5 stars) but not update if in MM song is rated 0 or unrated.

Also the bug is that the option update from device is always grayed and unchecked but the update always happens! so there is no way to not to update ratings from sansa.

All MTP devices (including Sansa) support only 1-5 stars ratings and 'unknown' rating, so there actually isn't a 0 stars state. For that reason there happens this, which might look strange, but seems to me to be better than setting this track as unrated.

Synchro with sansa player wrong [#5567]

If I have track rated as `bomb` and I send this track to sansa player, next time I connect my player this track will have rating set to 1 star. I would assume that if not better way is possible (since probably sansa doesn`t support bamb rating) it should be at least converted to 0 star not 1 star.
