That makes sense now...

I have quite a few tracks myself, but I don't analyze for duplicates. I work a lot with my tracks in Explorer and with other apps, so I'm usually pretty aware of where I might have duplicates. That does explain it. I don't analyze for duplicates and I scan only changed time/date.

Cabdude should at least have a variety of options now with this discusson! :D

I have around 40.000 tracks. I have enabled "Analyze tracks for Duplicates (takes extra time)" when adding/rescan tracks to library, because i dont want any duplicates. I also let MM file monitor all my collection. Therefore i cant enable "Start-up scan" since it would take like five hours to scan all my directories.

So if I change my tags with another software or if I add tracks, I make sure MM is runnig so i dont have to do a rescan.

So thats why!

Simply a difference of opinion. I use the Startup Scan and it works great. I don't generally add music WHILE I'm using MediaMonkey because I rip with another program.

I don't understand you second comment though:
But in order todo so MM must be running when adding/tag-changing tracks.
What you are trying to get at makes no sense to me because I change stuff all the time outside of MM and the changes pull in just fine with the startup scan enabled. I have never used the Add/Rescan tracks or had a reason to with File Monitor and the startup scan enabled.

But then again, it doesn't matter if it makes sense to me because my way is working just fine! Only matters that cabdude finds a work that works best for him.

Well, only of you have enabled Start-up Scan.

As I see it, there is no need to have MM to scan your directories at startup. I've set that option to NO. File monitor works in the way that it adds new tracks and update TAG-changes made on tracks, to MM library, if they are added/tag-changed in a folder specified in the "File Monitor". But in order todo so MM must be running when adding/tag-changing tracks. If you choose to add or change tags of files when MM is not running then you simply add/rescan those folders where the added/tag-changed tracks are located. But to have MM to see the changes made to the tag, you must have the option "Update Track info from Tags when rescanning files" checked (Tools->Options->library).

Bex, MM doesn't have to be running. File Monitor will accomplish the same thing when you close and restart MM (which I would recommend doing at least every day or other day just to ensure you clean out resources on the computer and keep the performance solid).

To a MOD, someone may want to combine these posts since Bex and I answered at the same time 8)

File monitor does exactly that! The only thing is that you must have MM running when adding the files to the locations you let MM monitor.
Read the help for more info!

PS You must also have Gold version since file monitor is a gold feature.

Hi,

I have all my songs (mp3) in an external drive. I daily add new songs to this drive, and I want to know how shall I do to see the new songs in Media Monkey automatically, without having to open a new database and scan the drive again...

Thanks
cabdude
