I would be happy to delete (unwanted) entries in the Search drop-down too.

Select + Delete like Firefox and others have has been suggested before to allow removing entries in drop-downs in MediaMonkey.

I'm with you. That's why I added it to the bug/feature-tracker:

Agreed, nohitter. I didn't think to close MediaMonkey first. But what stumped me for a little while is that the [SimpleSearch] section doesn't even appear in the ini file when MediaMonkey is open. That was the new-to-me tidbit of info I wanted to pass on.

It would be nice if one did not have to edit the ini file in order to clear the Search drop-down, and instead be able to clear entries from within the application itself, e.g., have a "remove" choice when one right-clicks on the list item. And/or have a switch in the preferences section so that the drop-down list feature is turned off. But that probably is a discussion for a different section of the forum. I'm just happy that there is a solution to what I regard as a (minor) defect, even if the solution is a bit geeky.

Well, yes. You should never edit any kind of setting file or registry entry while the program it affects is still open.

I wanted to add one more bit of info to this thread because I find that I mess up & hit "enter" on my Search every now and then and then have to go and clear out the drop-down box entry. I suppose I could just leave it there, but it irks me to see the same dumb entry all the time.

Anyway, if you go and try to edit the .ini file with Media Monkey open, you won't find the [SimpleSearch] section in the .ini file. At least I couldn't find it. When you close Media Monkey, the .ini file changes rather substantially and the [SimpleSearch] section appears in the .ini file, whereupon you can delete the Item entries. I thought this extra info might help someone else trying to figure out this problem. (At the very least, this is a bread crumb for me when I come searching the forum for this answer YET AGAIN after I've forgotten AGAIN! )

Items are saved there after you hit the "Enter" key after inputting a search entry.
A-ha! I guess wasn't hitting Enter very often, since the search results come up as one types. Thanks, nohitter.

This is exactly what I wanted to do: clear the drop-down list from the search box at the top of MediaMonkey (version 3.2). Just to help others who may have the same problem, the MediaMonkey.ini file is located in C:\Documents and Settings\<username>\Local Settings\Application Data\MediaMonkey. I found that I had to close MM, then edit and save the ini file, then reopen MM. The entries are in the [SimpleSearch] section, which in my file was near the end of the file.

By the way, how does that list get populated, anyway? I use Search a lot, but there were only 2 (unchanging) entries in my list. I didn't knowingly put them there.

This has been already added to our to-do list for the future version.

There's no way to get rid of them except for restarting MM at the moment. Definitely seems like something for the wishlist.

Are you talking about the drop down shown under the search box in the Search toolbar? That list can be deleted by editing the MediaMonkey.ini file.

If you used the search box you can delete text entered and your search results will be deleted.

How to clear search results

Hi,

in the left pane, under Search results, there's no delete context button, & I have searched the forum without joy....
