Are you transcoding between your media server and client (as I think may be default)? If you do this then there is always a pause as the transcoded file is created and sent to the cache before playback starts. If this is the case, then perhaps some "look ahead" feature could allow a transcode of the next track before the end of the last one?

When using MM b1385 to listen to the MM media server on another computer I get a significant (~10 second) pause between songs in a playlist. Plugplayer on my Ipod touch has a much shorter pause. Using Windows XP with all patches up to date.
