Missing Artist when browsing by Album

by rusty » Thu Dec 15, 2005 3:23 pm

Teunis,

We're not sure why this is--we haven't made any changes that should have affected this. Will investigate, but treating this as low priority.

Hi Jiri!

No, I've never used iTunes because I'm using MediaMonkey v2.4.1 for about one year now and bouhgt my iPod mini in august this year. And because I'm using my iPod for 3 month now I'm relatively sure that browsing albums has shown "album (artist)". But not any more since I updated to v2.4.2

Maybe it has got something to do with updating my iPod. I bought it with v1.3 firmware and updated it directly after this with "iPod Updater" to v1.4.

I'm confused by this. Are you both saying that MM at any version exported albums to iPod as '<Album> (<Artist>)' instead of the current '<Album>'? If so, at which version? Wasn't it generated by another application (iTunes)?

I can confirm Marsman's problem.

Config: iPod video, MM beta3, WinXP.

Browse by album on the iPod shows just the album titles, WITHOUT the artist names in brackets. Rusty please note: it's not that the tags of music PLAYING is displayed incorrectly, but the artist is lacking when BROWSING the album list.

Hope this helps.

Browse by Albums shows on my iPod:

album1
album2
...

Before updating MM to v.2.4.2 my iPod shows

album1 (artist1)
album2 (artist2)
...

iPod metadata display

by rusty » Wed Dec 07, 2005 1:37 pm

Titus,

I tested iTunes with the iPod mini and found:

Browse by 'Artists'
-->Browse 'All'
-->Browse <Album>s

On play, displays:
<Title>
<Artist>

Browse by 'Albums'
-->Browse 'All'
-->Browse <Album>s

On play, displays:
<Title>
<Artist>

I tested MediaMonkey build 921, and found that it works in the exact same manner. Unless I'm misunderstanding you, it doesn't look like there's a bug to me.

You can e-mail me \iPod_Control\iTunes\iTunesDB" file from your iPod and describe what exactly would you expect and don't see on your iPod.

Re: iPod Mini synch problem

Here is my device-configuration:

Force iTunes-style-folders: Yes
Trim path/filename length to 31: Yes

Update database on all Track changes

Allow device filesystem browsing: No
Level playback volume: No

Here are my Synchronization options:

Synchronize tracks to: <artist> - <titile>

Copy m3u playlists: No

Auto-Synchronize Settings:

Delete tracks: Yes
Confirm deletion: Yes
Auto-Sychronize tracks from the device to PC: No
Auto-Sychronize as soon...: No
Automatically unmount...: No

I've deleted all tracks from the iPod. Then I've select one album in MediaMonkeys album list and synchronized them by "synchronize selected". Tracks were copied to my iPod. After disconnecting the player, I can see the tracks in the music list. I can play them. When I play them, artist and album are displayed. But not in the music or album list. Only the album name appears on the display.

iPod Mini synch problem

by rusty » Tue Dec 06, 2005 4:57 pm

Marsman,

I tested Beta 3 with an iPod Mini (1.4 firmware) and cannot replicate the problem.

Can you elaborate and/or let me know if there's anything else particular about your setup? (note: the 1.4 firmware requires that iPod compatibility settings be enabled)

iPod doesn't show artists in music list

by Marsman » Tue Dec 06, 2005 2:57 pm

Hi!

I've updated from Media Money version v2.4.1 to your latest beta 2.5.1.921. After synchronizing again, my iPod mini doesn't show the artist names in the music and album list any more. Before updating to the new version of MM, album names followed by the artist names in parentheses were displayed in the music-list. iPod software version is 1.4.
