No I replicated it. It just took a bit of fiddling to figure out how to replicate.

Thanks.

@rusty
I see you submitted my problem to - I suppose - MM's todo-list.
The description is correct.
But do I understand you could not replicate the issue yourself?

Ok, that is a feature I never used or tried.

I have seen it in the past (MM3) on occasion where editing in the Now Playing window with AutoDJ auto-removing played songs that on track changes the edit is saved to the wrong file.

I don't understand your question 'Where were you editing the track from' - from what ? No clue what the possible answer could be.
Where from, eg you can click in the main panel to edit a track, you could click in now playing to edit a track, you could select the track and go to View > Properties, or you could select the track, right click > Properties.

Such information is needed when reporting a bug - very detailed steps on where/when/how everything is done so that we can have a chance to do exactly as you did.

In any case from your description and Rusty's below, I now understand what you were doing.
NH: I thought he made it clear that he was editing in the now playing area when the error occurred when the track switched before he finished his editing.

BTW: I just tried it in the now playing node and now playing window on the comments, artist and composer fields and my changes saved to the correct file not the new now playing track.

OK--I get it.

This is occurring because Tools > Options > Now Playing is set to automatically retain x files in now playing. i.e. the NP list shifts up causing a shift in which track is focused.

As said: a track by Bach was playing - the artist name was nonsense (Rommantic), so in the Now Playing window I clicked on the artist field, then changed it into Johan Sebastian Bach - 1685-1750 or so), but while I was doing that the track ended, a new song started, so when I hit the ENTER key to confirm Bach, it was added to the wrong track, to the one that was NOW playing.

I can't replicate this either. I'm very curious how you managed this...

There is not any undo.

Also I could not replicate your bug, where were you editing the track from?

I tried to replace the nonsense artist name of the track that was playing in 'now playing'.
While I was doing that, the track ended and the player moved to the next track.
I finished my editing and entered it.
The result?
The (next) song Lisa was now by Johann Sebastian Bach - and the one I wanted to edit still had the nonsense artist 'Rommantic'.
Is this a bug?
Or is it just not wise/recommendable to edit tracks that are being played?
If so, then block them as long as they are playing, I would say.
But that would mean that they also cannot be deleted - which is sometimes necessary: clean the dirt while you come across it.

If actions like these or others go wrong, is there any UNDO option?
