Cat,

Thanks for the feedback. The fact that doing an auto-tag from filename operation solves the problem implies that it's related to the file tags, but unfortunately I'm still at a loss--it's working fine here...

If you find another set of files with the problem, please PM them (note: send the full set of files in the directory, preserving the full path in the zip file).

Thanks.

Here some answers:
0) No, it does not occur on all the directories. It is completly random. And it dissappears when I do a auto label from filename.
1) Yes they are part of the library. I have one directory with all my music files and it is set to rescan the directory on start to add new files.
2) Do not know that. It is kind of a habit of me to use the computer node because I can easily find my way through my music files. I will test this the next time I find such files.
3) No, position is irrelevant.
4) I have only seen this with mp3 files up to now. I have flac and mp3 files, but have never seen this with flac files.
5) No, I have no clue.

Next time I find a file I will not touch it and PM you so you can check the file out. I can even arrange a gotomeeting if you like so you can take over the machine if you like to do some testing. I am a software designer myself so I know a bit about bug hunting

Hi Cat,

Thanks--that was very helpful. Unfortunately, I still can't reproduce it :-(

A couple of questions:
0) Does it occur for all of the other Madonna album directories? or is it just specific to the directory that you showed?
1) I see that you're navigating via the My Computer node. Are the madonna tracks that you were navigating part of the Library (i.e. have they been scanned)?
2) If the bug occurs with tracks that are in the library, does it occur for nodes other than the 'My Computer' node?
3) Does the bug always occur for the first track in the filelist? or is position irrelevant?
4) Is the bug specific to any File Format (e.g. MP3, OGG, FLAC, etc.)? Can you zip up that particular Madonna directory, post it to e.g. mediafire, and pm it to me?
5) Is there anything else that you can think of that might be unique to the files/directories for which it occurs?

Thanks for all your help.

If anyone else experiences a similar problem on upgrade, let us know.

Thanks.

Hi, unfortunately i cant because as i said earlier i have retagged all the troublesome files using "tag from filename"
thanks

[quote="Lowlander"]How do you know that the tags were in the files in MM3 and not just in the database? Did you ever look at the files with missing tags in MM4 outside of MM3 and verified the tags were in the files?

3 reasons
1: because i used version 3 for ages, and the info (song title and artist) were visible in the mm v3 browser.
2: because copies of the files are in use on another pc with all tag info visible.
3: tagscanner shows the tags
thanks

PS. If you install MM4 over MM3 it will install as upgrade. It can only be installed next to MM3 if you install to a different directory or as portable in a different directory.

Can you check in MM3 whether the files in question have their tags populated by going (in MM) to My Computer > Path > File, right-click on the file to view properties and see whether the Properties are in fact tagged.

As suggested by olekristian, my guess is that the properties never had tags to begin with.

cat,
Can you explain exactly which nodes you're clicking and exactly what file types? Does the problem always occur? Is it particular to an View? Exactly what steps do you take to replicate?

I checked this out in 1440 via Music / Location / <Path> / <file>, and via My Computer / <Path> / <file> , by selecting tracks in both locations and pressing f2 to edit the fields of individual tracks in both locations (tested in both Details and Art&Details views) but couldn't replicate any such issues.

Thanks.
Hi, and thanks for the response. Cant check version 3 as its gone. I was on the understanding that when you installed version 4 that it would run beside and seperate to version 3. Version 3 has been overwritten with v4? Let me explain a bit better about what happened. After installing v4 I rescanned the library as per normal, but in the browser view there was a couple of hundred file names and titles missing from view. When I looked at the tags the info was not there either, whereas the same files were perfect in v3. I did try to "maintain library" but that didnt work. I then selected the files with missing info and tagged from filename and everythings back as normal. My only monkey on my xp sp3 pc is v4. The browser view I was using was from the library node of the tree. Yes I could have selected each file individually as when I tried that it worked(of course)Thanks, I still do love my monkey
The tag info WAS DEFINITELY there in v3, and I have exactly the same files on another pc which are fine.

I am seeing a similair problem since version 1439. I click the directory and all the fields are filled, but clicking a file empties the fields. Clicking the directory is filling them again. Create from filename fixes this. Then when clicking the file the fields stay filled.

Could be that your tags hasn't been syncronized: The tag information resides in the MM3 database but hasn't been written to the files

missing tags

Hi, apologies if this is the wrong spot for the question. I downloaded and installed MM 4,0.0.1440 and installed it on my winxp sp3 pc. It works great except some of the tag information is missing which was there in version 3. I have nearly 7k mp3s in a folder which I scanned into MM and theres probably a couple of hundred mp3s that show no title and/or artist in the browser. If I click on a file with missing info its plays as per normal. All 7k of files show path and filename correctly. If I right click on a file with missing tag info, then properties, then auto tag from file name it fixes it. This problem was not there in version 3, and yes there was the same mp3 files. thanks
