Changing the MediaMonkey 4 ini to point to the custom DB location used in MediaMonkey 3 should be sufficient.

I did the same thing to fix mine.

1. Uninstalled MM4
2. Reinstalled MM3
3. Edited MediaMonkey.ini and changed database location back to default location: C:\Documents and Settings\<USERNAME>\Local Settings\Application Data\MediaMonkey\MM.DB (For WinXP)
4. Copied MM.db to default location of C:\Documents and Settings\<USERNAME>\Local Settings\Application Data\MediaMonkey\MM.DB (For WinXP)
5. Closed MM3, reopened and verified it was using the new DB location.
6. Installed MM4 - it upgraded DB during install.
7. Closed MM4, reopened and verified that all my music was there.
8. Edited MediaMonkey.ini and changed database location back to my custom location.
9. Moved MM.db to my custom location.
10. Restarted MM4 to verify everything worked.

All good.

Okay, I fixed it by just copying the MM3 database to the default location of <user>\AppData\Roaming\MediaMonkey directory and then restarting. It found it and upgraded the Database to MM4 version just fine.

I'm having the same issue. I had moved it to a non-standard location, and after the upgrade, a blank db was created in the default location. Running DBUpgrade on the old MM3 DB gives the "Unrecognized Database Format" error.

I'm working with WinXP SP3 and I'm a member of the administrators group.

I tried your suggestion and copied MM.db (about 13MB in size)to C:\Documents and Settings\ksteele\My Documents

I then ran C:\Program Files\MediaMonkey dbupgrade C:\Documents and Settings\ksteele\My Documents\MM.db C:\Documents and Settings\ksteele\My Documents\MM4.db

The same DOS box pops up as before, but the GUI does not. Still no joy, nothing else seems to be happening.

It may be a permissions issue, try to move the database to a location that is accessible for non-admins, like somewhere in your user folder.

How do you manually upgrade MM3 database to MM4?

I upgraded MM3 to MM4 and none of my playlists or music appear in MM4. After reading a few posts, I realized this was because I chose to store my MM3 database in a non-default location.

I attempted to manually upgrade my database by temporarily copying it (MM.db) to C:\Program Files\MediaMonkey and ran dbupgrade MM.db MM4.db. This brings up a DOS box that shows:

Code: Select all

MediaMonkey 3 Database Upgrader
Current Process Step:
Current Process Perc:
along with a gui window:

Code: Select all

Data Source
MediaMonkey
Authorization
Login name: admin
Password:
I don't know what the password is and using a blank password returns an error message "Unrecognized database format C:\Program Files\MediaMonkey\MM.db".

What is the proper procedure for manually updating a MM3 database to MM4?
