Yet another problem(s) to report
I was asked if I could make a "guess that tune" cd and I remembered about the preview function in MM.
So I set up the preview settings in options/virtual cd and preview and the first thing I noticed is that the directory was defaulting to:-
C:\Users\Me\AppData\
Local\MediaMonkey\Previews\ eg my MM3 directory
As I am now on a portable install I find this puzzling to say the least.
So I created new directories for preview and virtual cd (something else I have never used before) in my portable location (c:\Mediamonkey) and tested by creating previews of 10 tracks.
Sure enough MM4 created the wma snippets in the new directory np.
OK now to test so I selected the preview node and to my horror my whole library now appeared in the main window!! All 80k tracks
These were all the original files and the funny thing was that the previews I had just created were not among them (easy to find because all my music files are mp3's)
The Preview node had listed below it about 20 artists - only one of which were in the previews I created.
I then used the library maintain option to clear preview entries blah blah
Checked again and I now appeared to be down to about 9 artists in the sub-nodes but the main window was still showing all of the library?
I then checked the MM3 Previews directory (eg: local\MediaMonkey\Previews) in case there was garbage there and the directory was empty.
So I re-started MM4 - checked again - still the same
I then noticed that the directories for both Virtual CD & Previews had reverted back to the old appdata\Local settings as before eg they hadn't saved.
And before anyone asks yes MM4 had closed correctly.
I have optimised library (full) - re-installed and it makes no difference - I am afraid I am nearly at the end of my tether
Further info the database was initially created using MM4 RC1 so it isnt an upgrade bug.
PS I did manage to create my cd - I just used MM3 which worked fine - so much for progress
