I'll mention the cause for your interest, and the benefit of others who may view this thread.

The Rip CD dialog highlights in red certain tracks, with the explanation "Duplicates and overly long filenames are highlighted. Please edit them".
That's the cause. The freedb data in these cases is comically long, with almost the entire orchestra all being named as the artist!

All I need to do now is align the folder location for Rip CD with that chosen automatically by the Virtual CD option, and the problems will be fixed!!!

MM authors might like to offer this "error" explanation in the next version, when tracks are unavoidably omitted by Virtual CD.
It would save much frustration when being unable to identify the cause of skipped tracks.

You could try to Rip a CD with this problem and see if it also skips the first track. Otherwise send a debug log (step 4b) to support: http://www.mediamonkey.com/forum/viewtopic.php?f=7&t=69

The context of this problem is:
O/S : Windows 7, 64 bit
Software : MM Gold 4.03.1476 (Portable Mode)
Method : Send to Virtual CD, with all tracks previously selected.

As the success rate has been 99%, this suggests no problem with the method employed.
I should add that this problem was first evident when I was using MM Gold3.
As my existing DVD drive was old, and often failing to eject disks, I chose to blame it, and have just installed 2 differing replacement DVD drives.
No change however.
Is there a method of slowing the rip speed, to give a better chance of not skipping?

When I later re-insert the same disk, and select all tracks, and "Send to Virtual CD", MM identifies the first absent track, pauses for a moment, and then moves on to the next missing track. No attempt to rip them however.

Any ideas what else I might try?

Which version of MediaMonkey? Are the tracks selected in the rip dialog to be ripped? And yes, you can just use Add/Rescan Files on files ripped with other programs to add them to the MediaMonkey Library.

I have spent many hours ripping c.1000 cd's using MM.
MM is great software, but I've encountered some issues. Here is one perturbing me at the moment.
A few "random" tracks on just a few of my CD's refuse to rip.
This becomes evident after the CD is removed from the DVD drive, and then the relative track then becomes "greyed out" in the library.
Giving MM another opportunity -indeed several - to rip makes no difference.

I've just installed 2 new DVD drives (from different manufacturers) but no change in the MM response.
However, old software such as Audiograbber tackles these mystery tracks without difficulty.
I've run out of ideas to get MM to handle all the tracks...
I suppose a success rate of 99% is not something to moan about.

I'm wondering if setting a slower ripping speed for MM would make a difference? Can I modify this somehow temporarily?

Alternatively, can I rip the tracks using Audiograbber say, and then persuade the MM database to "adopt" the resultant MP3 as though it had done the ripping?
I would guess that this is a similar procedure to amalgamating downloaded tracks into an album, perhaps? I've not yet attempted this, but will want to do so soon.
