1) @rusty, I haven't been able to reproduce this problem either. But it definitely crashed the first time I started up MM with my iPhone plugged in, first-time execution after initial installation. <shrug>

2) @ LowLander, thx for the info. Tools > Options > Portable/Audio Devices only governs which DLLs get used for which devices. Those options don't configure which "Windows Connection Wizard" pops up when you plug in a new removable PnP device. In fact, unchecking the iPhone entry in that configuration dialog in MM (which lists 'd_iPhone.dll' as the corresponding DLL) has no effect on anything as far as I can tell, and there's no way I've been able to find where I could configure it to use an alternative DLL anyway in the event I'd want to. Upon closer examination, this "problem" stems from the iPhone being detected both as an audio device, popping up MediaMonkey as an option in the iPhone Connection wizard, and as a camera device, popping up various other apps as alternatives in the Camera Connection wizard. I can easily remedy the annoyance of these popups by selecting the "No Action" option and clicking the checkbox that "always performs the same action"; it just seemed to me at the time that they should be combined into one wizard, but I was wrong. My original report was bogus -- there's no fault or quirk with MM: the iPhone is in fact both an audio device and a camera, so distinct wizards should pop up.

3) @LowLander, so it does. I was trying to drag-n-drop into the main pane, not into the Library Music selector over in the shortcuts pane. Supporting D'n'D is vastly handier than having to constantly browse for the appropriate iTunes Media folder on disk, one at a time. Of course, the nice thing would be if D'n'D wwere allowed into the iPhone Music selector in the same pane to avoid having to drag to the Music library, then from there to the iPhone, in separate steps ... but how such a feature would interact with device syncing would have to be thought through carefully.

Thx. All's well so far. Good work.

Hi Rodzo,

I tried to replicate the crash you described (issue 1), but can't. If you have a moment, please send us a debug log.

Thanks!

3) Correction, I can drag & drop from iTunes into MediaMonkey using aforementioned guidelines.

1) Create a debug log with the debug version of MediaMonkey 4.0.7.1506: http://www.mediamonkey.com/forum/viewto ... ?f=6&t=341

2) Check under Tools > Options > Portable/Audio Devices which plugin is associated with the device

3) I think this is an iTunes limitation as it also fails when drag & drop from MM. Do make sure you drag & drop onto a main Library Collection node (Music, Classical Music, Entire Library), it should also work when drag & drop into Now Playing.

MM beta build 1506 issues [#9506]

Version: 4.0.7.1506
iPhone 3GS/iOS 6, Windows XP/SP3, 4GB, other equipment irrelevant

CAVEAT: MM noob.

1. BUG: MM crashes at app launch in XP if my iPhone is plugged in at that time. Unplug the phone, relaunch MM, it starts up fine, and detects the phone ok when plugged in after startup. MM icon present in Taskbar after crash; hovering over it removes it. Repeatable. No .elf file generated, can't enclose.

2. NUISANCE: MM is identifying iPhone as a generic "Portable Audio Player" and not specifically an "Apple iPhone". Upon plugging in iPhone, XP always pops up its usual "Apple iPhone detected, Select the action to launch" selector dialog (unless disabled, which I don't). With MM active, upon iPhone connection, XP pops up this dialog and the same dialog for "Portable Audio Player detected". If MM recognized the device as an "Apple iPhone", these two separate dialogs would be combined, and I wouldn't have to dismiss them both. Not a bug per se, but annoying.

3. FEATURE ENHANCEMENT REQ: I'm amazed that MM doesn't support drag-n-drop from iTunes into the MM library window, especially since MM is so iTunes-savvy. Other third-party media management apps do. I'm considering the migration to MM, and evaluating it. It's comparatively quite the pain have to constantly navigate to the iTunes Media directory on disk in order to import it into an MM library, when all that info is in the D'n'D event. (Unfortunately, I still use/need iTunes, so I manage media there in multiple libraries, and only move content into MM for downloading to iPhone.) This is probably a deal-breaker for me; CopyTrans Manager is much simpler for this purpose, but thought I'd check out MM as an alternative.

Otherwise, kudos on the feature set, mostly.
