That policy looks OK to me.

When MMA talks to the server in MMW, are they each aware that the other side is also MM? If not, can they be made to? And so know what sort of buffering will be done.

Of course, I'd rather see scrobbling in the MMA client... But I do want playcounts in the library to reflect plays on the tablet.

Anyway, I did again play tracks on the tablet from the Sync Server, and from the old Library server, and saw the same behavior as I reported earlier. I looked at the options and the only difference was: The older Library server (set up with 4.07) had no auto-conversion rules enabled; the Sync Server had the default rules. When I turned the rules off in Sync Server and tried again, that seemed to be the trick: plays are now updated. Maybe the default FLAC>MP3 conversion is causing the play count to be lost.

This should behave same way for both. The sync server just indicates that it is used for WiFi sync too, but PlayCounter increasing when serving a file via UPnP/DLNA is same.

Note that it is generally a problem, because some clients pre-buffers whole the file before playing and thus MMW is not sure whether to increase the PlayCounter or not.
So the current politic is that it must buffers at least 90% of the file and the last increased time should be > 1 minute or the song length < 1 minute.
I know that it is a little bit tricky, but it is a result of several complaints when tracks were often double-scrobbled because some clients re-buffered them.

Testing this a bit more: I played all but two songs of an album in MMW; terminated play with Stop After Current.

I browsed to Sync Server via MMA UPnP, found the same album, selected the last two tracks and played them. The first track's play was recorded, and scrobbled, but the second one, not. The playlist just ended after that second song.

Next I browsed to the non-Sync Server, and just selected a random smart playlist of ten tracks; started that up and ran four tracks, stopped near the end of the fourth one. All four updated and scrobbled.

I'll test this more later.

Streaming now from the Library server to MMA, play info is getting updated and scrobbles are going out.

Looks like play info and scrobble occur at some point early in the track's play, but not right away when it starts.

Strangely I can't reproduce. I disable Podcasts in the Media Tree settings and it still shows in the Media Servers settings. However other disable Collections aren't showing, but they haven't been used in Media Sharing. So for me on 1619 a Collection will still show under Media Servers if it is enabled even if Media Tree has it disabled.

Note: that Media Tree settings changes require you to OK the Options to have them being effective in Media Sharing.

I figured this out: The main tree is configured to hide Classical and Podcasts. When I look at Shared Content for the Sync Server, it only shows the items that are enabled in the tree, so I didn't see that Classical and Podcasts were enabled for sharing. When I enabled those nodes in the tree, they then also showed in the Shared Content window; and after I turned them off, I hid them in the tree again.

I'm trying from within MMW and MMA and the sync server (on MMW 1619) only shows what has been enabled for sharing for me.

When I browse UPnP servers, I see both the Sync Server and the original Library server available. Is there any reason not to use the Sync Server? I have Classical Music and Podcasts collections turned off (not shared) in both servers, but the Sync Server shows them anyway when I browse as UPnP.

If the Sync Server is somehow not suitable for UPnP, could you suppress it in the MMA UPnP listing?
