I'm experiencing this same bug. Using .1643 and Windows 8. The flash drive appears normally in the system tree of My Computer when inserted but disappears from there once MM is started. It shows up VERY briefly when MM first starts but then disappears. The OS won't recognize the drive while MM is running. I have to shut down MM and reinsert the flash drive for my PC to recognize it again.

When having a USB drive attached and clicking on
- USB drive -> "Auto-Sync (-->Library)" or
- USB drive -> Options -> "File Locations"
the drive disappears from the archive tree (can take some seconds) and reappears after about 30 seconds.

It even disappears and stopps copying during syncing files. I've tested two clean usb flash drives. They are absolutely ok and working.
