As a temporary solution, if you are using Android 4.0 or higher, you can long press on the notification and drag up to shrink it. You might have to drag down first to enter resize mode, but that's an issue with Android.
In testing this I have discovered that the size is not saved, i.e. if I shrink the notification then stop the music, the next time the notification is displayed it will be full size again. I don't know if Android alerts the app of the notification resize, but if it does then it would be useful to automatically restore the previous notification size each time the notification is created.
