You can store your desktop database anywhere, but only MediaMonkey for Windows can read and use it.

Copy MM database / Store library on NAS / Win Phone ?

by ohneland » Sat Oct 26, 2013 4:52 am

I was having the same issue.
Installed MMA because I really like the Desktop version.
However, the point of purchasing a NAS was not have the Desktop PC switched on all the time.
It seems that with the current setup MMA just is another Media Player that can connect to a UPNP-server (it is not a bad app though!).
Is there a way to store the MM database on the NAS (in my case a Synology DS)?
Or maybe a way to copy the database to your android device with the paths modified respectively (as my Music is on the NAS anyway)?
And what about Windows Phone?
Thanks!

MMA can only connect to UPnP/DLNA servers (as explained previously). A NAS isn't a UPnP/DLNA server unless you enable one to run on it (most NAS can do this). However a NAS UPnP/DLNA server bypasses MediaMonkey (no play history, no AutoPlaylists, etc.) and instead is a self-contained server working directly with the files on the NAS.

Connect to MM library

Just installed MMA on my tablet and am looking at the possibilities.
I had more or less expeceted to be able to connect to the MM library which is on my NAS. Now it seems I can only connect via the MM instance on my desktop - which then has to stay on day and night. Of course I can sync music to my tablet, but the tablet is a bit too small for the entire collection.

Am I doing something wrong or did I misunderstand the possibilities of MMA?
Regards,
Willy
