So I think I've determined a pattern for MMA failing to play back over BT. I often use the Samsung Music Player, which has a single track in its library (the sound of crashing waves) that I play in my bedroom overnight and also thru headphones when my office gets loud. I've noticed that if SMP was the last active player at the time the BT connection is made, then MMA can't seem to get access to it.
Try these steps:
1) Play something thru the Samsung player (maybe any other player), using the device's speakers or jack; pause it.
2) Connect device to BT (head unit off)
3a) Bring up MMA
3b) Turn on head unit after BT connection established
3c) Try to play something thru the BT connection.
One thing I've noticed: after step 3a, before the head unit has come on, I've several times seen MMA go into play mode on its own; the track progresses for a few seconds, then it pauses; then the scrubber bar returns to 0:00, and then it starts to play again. I don't know if this play, pause, reset, play cycle ever stops; I've seen it go on four times in a row before I tried something else. It may do the same thing once the head unit is on. But I don't get music thru the BT.
Sometimes, if I turn off the head unit, stop MMA from the notification bar, and restart, it will play. Also, sometimes, switching the head unit to a CD, letting it play for a period of time, and then switching back, I can get music.
Contrary to the above, if MMA was active prior to connecting to BT, it seems to play; at least, it seems to play more often.
