I'm a long time user of Mediamonkey for audio files, but have just recently started using it to organize my growing collection of TV Series and Movies. I've run into a very perplexing and possibly very damaging problem with regard to tagging (some) video files. Here's a rundown of what I've done so far. I'm hoping to determine if the problem is something with MM or with the particular files that are experiencing the problem. He's a rundown of what I'm doing:
1. First I added my 'Video' folder to MM and set it to 'scan constantly'
2. Then, began going through each series editing the following fields as required: 'Series', 'Title', 'Episode#' 'Season#', 'Track#'.
3. I will often use the 'Tag from Filename' if the filename has pertinent information (written in a systematic way) that's missing in the tags.
3. Once the tags look good, I use the 'Auto-Organize' feature to rename the filename to a standardized naming convention: <Series> [<season#>x<episode#>] <title>
Once all is said and done, all my files are orgainzed this way: <Series>/Season <Season#>/ <Series> [<season#>x<episode#>] <title>
The above info may or may not be relevant so feel free to just read the below for the actual problem!
On one particular group of files, upon adding them to MM (per step 1) and then editing the tags (per step 2), the file sizes change immediately after any changes made to the tags are accepted. The file size goes from about 300MB (about 45 min of video) to 2MB! The file becomes unreadable.
I can add some screen caps to explain further. What I'm hoping for now though is an explanation of what exactly is going on behind the scenes when MM edits tags (particularly in videos). Is it usually modifying the file in some way or are these tags separate from the video file? I was under the impression that, with audio, the tag was embedded in the file but I'm unsure whether video works the same way.
Anyway, long post sorry for the wordiness but if anyone made it through this and would like to help out I'd greatly appreciate it. I'm sure I've left out tons of important details so ask anything and I'll try to find the info you need to solve this riddle.
