AverageUser,
If you open your Computer Case case you should be able to rewire back USB to front ones (if available on mother board, before you open case you could check at the back of computer do you have USB ports on places what expansion cards uses that means beside those right by printer connector and if you have them than you can rewire them to front mounted USBs)

Edit: Tatung cd1216e is 16x CD-Rom drive and it is very Possible that it do not support RAW Audio CD read (I'm Almost 100% Percent sure). May I suggest that you either change unit or disconnect that drive if you have other one as it slows your system up to 30% no matter if you have P4. Here 52x Drives are several (~7) Euros which is not expensive and they work much much better.

D'OH! I found the USB ports on the XP box  The ones in the front of the case don't work, but the ones in the back (directly to the MOBO) work just fine. Problem sloved! I'm an idiot.

Peke,
Thanks for the reply. Here’s what I’ve done:

--Installed v6.0 (couldn’t find v6.1)
--MM. (under v6.0) giving error: “Your devise driver does not support ASPI RAW_READ command. Sense key 0x5 (illegal request)”
--Tried to find out if my CD-ROM supports RAW Digital Data Extraction from Audio CD
(TATUNG CD-1216E) but couldn’t find any specifications on it.
--Installed v4.71.2 (from v6.0). Same error: “Your devise driver does not support ASPI RAW_READ command. Sense key 0x5 (illegal request)”
--Tools à Options à Input Plugins à CDReader shows: E:\ [ASPI] TATUNG CD-1216E (listed on top) F:\ [ASPI] IDE-CD R/RW (listed under the E drive)
--I get no ASPI RAW_READ error message when I play a CD in the ‘F’ drive but I cannot convert the song to MP3. MM says it was “Unable to convert”.

MM runs great on my other machine (Win XP) but that machine has no working USB port. My Win 98 machine does have a working USB port but (as you know) the software isn’t working. I’ve been working around the problem by ripping songs on the XP machine, uploading them to my ISP, downloading them to the Win 98 machine, then copying them onto my SwiMP3. Unfortunately, the evaluation period has expired on both Ipswitch and CuteFTP.

Hmmm.... Try to install ASPI 4.61 before 4.71.2 This helps on some systems, also after ASPI install you should check CDReader Plugin for correct order of CD-Roms and its Drive letters as in some cases Win itself arrange drive letters which do not comply ASPI rules :( which results in error -4 from MM as command is addressed to wrong CD-Rom (there is no chance that MM can solve that problem on Win98) and ASPI RAW is needed to read CD-TEXT info from CD.

Note: Have you checked that your CD-Rom Support RAW Digital Data Extraction from Audio CD-s? Nero Info Tool can help (but not sure if it uses ASPI or Nero ASPI).

Here are some links regarding ASPI:

http://radified.com/ASPI/forceaspi.htm

Also You can try Win98SE Unofficial Service Pack at:
http://exuberant.web1000.com/98sesp.html

I hope this helps as it helped me not just for MM but for lots of Apps that had problems in Win98SE

Okay...apparently "For Windows 98, NT 4.0, ME and 2000, use the enclosed ASPIINST.EXE file to install the ASPI layer". means:
Start --> Run --> C:\adaptec\aspi\install.bat X86 with the space. . .
I'm now updated to v4.71.2! Hurrah!
Now MM says: ASPI failed to init.
I can still play CD's but I can't convert them to MP3 -- "The CD-ROM device 'E': was not found" and "Don't know how to decode file E:\Track04.cda

I'm having the exact same problem: "Your device or driver does not support ASPI RAW & Read command".

I downloaded Adeptec driver v4.71.2 but I can't seem to get it installed.
Here's what I've done:
-- "This file extracts by default to the c:\adaptec\ directory". Check
-- "For Windows 98, NT 4.0, ME and 2000, use the enclosed ASPIINST.EXE file to install the ASPI layer". I'm running Win 98 so I found the "Install" MSDOS shortcut; clicked it.
-- MSDOS window pops up. . . "Hit any key to continue". Check.
-- MSDOS window shows "Installation finished"
-- Start MM. "Your device or driver does not support ASPI RAW & Read command".
-- Check the ASPI Installation Verification utility. It's still showing v.4.0
-- Restart Computer. Same results. :(
What am I doing wrong?

CD Reader plugin settings you can find under tools/Options/Input Plugins. Select CD Reader plugin, click on configure, double click ok CDRom that have error and now you can temper with its settings.

This post you have supplied is one approach to the problem not solve in every App. Some apps use Nero some don't, but most of app 99% can use Adaptec ASPI download from http://www.adaptec.com/worldwide/suppor ... _471a2.exe and install it as specified. All things should work in MM now.

Hi Peke,

Not sure what the 'CD Reader v3.0' Input Plugin is? Where do I get it?

I am using Nero ASPI, not Adaptec, as I rip MP3's to the standards on Ubernet.org (http://www.ubernet.org/modules.php?op=m ... erstandard) and they require Nero ASPI.

Thanks for the help.

Try to temper with various settings of 'CD Reader v3.0' Input Plugin.

BTW have you installed latest ASPI Drivers from Adaptec (4.71 or abouve)?

Device or Driver does not support ASPI RAW & Read comman

by munman » Mon Sep 20, 2004 7:07 pm

Here's the scenario:

CDROM is Plextor UltraPlex 40Max SCSI with latest firmware.
WinXP Pro SP1.

I place a CD in the drive and get this error:

"Your device or driver does not support ASPI RAW & Read command. Sense Key: 0x5 (Illegal Request). Sense Code: 0x20 0x0 (Invalid command operation code)."

I've never noticed this before because I have only used MediaMonkey with MP3 files.

It DOES work and play fine though, in my Plextor Plexwriter Premium CDRW drive (IDE).

So I assume it is a SCSI/ASPI thing?

Not a big deal, just a curious matter.

Any ideas?

MediaMonkey rocks!! :D
