It is known that some manufacturers use their own drivers and Sony is know for that.

I remember that they had a hack to have Legacy MSC connection along with MTP even Google abandon it.

THX for update.

I got it fixed by installing Sony Xperia Companion on my computer, then my Xperia Z5 is quickly detected by my computer. It seems a drive issue.

Just in case anyone is still struggling with this, as I was, pairing the phone with the computer fixed it

I tried all sorts, inc the uninstalling method mentioned previously

Once I paired with this PC (never had to before) it worked fine

Correcting my last post. The Portable Device is really recognized by Windows and installed automatically (wpdmtp.inf_amd64_6f796dce421c1379\wpdmtp.inf) SERVICE: WinUSB.
The other one is the ADB driver witch is not recognized by windows automatically and it's installed only when PC COMPANION is running. So, in my XPERIA Z1 it is still now showing in Media Monkey, but it is showing at Explorer correctly (both internal and external card).

For me I marked in Windows 8 the option of REMOVE DRIVER but it reinstalled the Sony sa0109 ADB Interface Driver. =(
Do you have PC COMPANION installed?

Unfortunatelly it didn't work for me. What version are you using and what driver it was installed when you did that. Mine is Windows 8.0 Compilation 9200 and it installed the driver SONY sa0109 ADB Interface Driver. Was it different for you?

* Plug the phone via USB, MTP enabled
* Open Windows Device Manager window
* Look for your phone
* Right click on your phone and click uninstall
* Wait for a few seconds
* Remove USB cable
* Unlock your phone
* Plug the phone again with USB cable
* Wait for Windows to re-install the driver
* Open Mediamonkey
* Smile
